Um. You don't pay to upload the maps to b.net. That's how it's going to work period. It's called the "Marketplace" or whatever.

The premium thing is when a map gets popular enough and contains enough original content for Blizzard to allow it to become a monetary asset aka selling it and getting a part of the coin. It's just another way of introducing micro transactions to the game.

While we're on the subject of b.net 2.0, here's what you'll be looking at.

I'm kind of curious as to what the hell "Co-op Skirmish" is. There's a few maps listed as that. It could just be a display thing for the mockup and not actually mean anything, or it could be ums-esque maps of some kind.

Ah, I see. Thanks much for enlightening me!  :)

The plan is still epic fail, though. If a map gets popular and Blizzard is willing to buy it from the creator, the joke is on Blizz because a ton of people will already have it and be able to post it elsewhere. I'd be astonished if Blizzard could come up with a map protection system that can't be bypassed.

I will now cease to express my continued distaste for this plan. Thank you for your time.  :P

Blizzard doesn't technically buy it from the creator from what I understand, they enter a sort of mutual agreement. So, there will be a lot of people making maps with the sole hope of trying to make it into that agreement.

Semantics, but yeah.

As long as Blizzard's games are the best platforms out there for custom maps and custom content*, they can do damn near whatever they feel like because all the other companies don't have the guts or programming know-how to let other people fuck with their game.

*Other games with that potential or even more, do exist, like Neverwinter Nights 1 or Freespace 2, but in RTS, Blizzard has the ball.

I must admit that bnet 2.0 and how it will work with SC2 is pretty badass, but if that is all we hear about on the SC2 front for all of BlizzCon, I will be vastly disappointed.  :(

Thank god for that! I never really followed BlizzCon in previous years. I would just hear whatever I hear from the various fansites. I hope they don't go too overboard on the lore one, though. I feel like, as time goes on, they are much more loose-lipped with things that would be nice to experience for ourselves rather than they tell us about it.

Blizzard is letting mappers and modders earn an income off their hard work. I don't see how this is a bad thing. You aren't required to charge for it, it is up to you. So if some guy makes an awesome map, and decides to charge a fuckton of money for it, nobody will really play it, they'll move on to something else that is free.

Its kinda how Valve propped up DoD, counterstrike, team fortress, etc. People who weren't there are misunderstanding it as a cash grab  by blizzard, but the truth is they are finally letting YOU grab some cash if you so please.
Now with 50% more lol, 50% more win, and 100% phlail.

There's legal issues with what I do, so I don't think I'm charging anything.

I have a feeling its like that for most people. I imagine people using the sc2 engine as a base for their "own" game. A group could probably replicate demigod to a close degree using the starcraft 2 editor and we would see projects like that being monetized.

Lav better ask some good editor questions in the next Q&A or I'll hang him. I'm interested to hear Blizzard actually recognize mods as different than maps for a change.

I will never agree with the choice of making maps (they never said anything about mods) a micro transaction feature. To me that's no different than charging for DLC and it's not something I think the community should be going towards at all. That just means the general quality level of custom content is going to plummit since any maps that end up being decent will cost money.

The links to download the two monk videos are STILL down.

Wow, very bad response from the differentiation between maps and mods. Blizzard seriously thinks they're the same thing. Facepalm.

Anyone know where I can find video of the Raynor Armor, Mengsk, and young Raynor CG?

Behold the first glances of your editor.

StarCraft II Custom Map Preview

StarCraft II Galaxy Editor

Nothing they showed was really impossible inside wc3 - except for the Uberlisk which is using hardpoints. That's pretty significant. If you remember games like Supreme Commander and Homeworld, all of their turrets and subsystems all use hardpoints.

One has to wonder about mod support, though. Do they still have a mod loader, and how powerful is it? Will they include importers as well as exporters with their 3d package?

The sc2 matches. The sound is a bit loud.

The editor looks very nice but I wonder what they meant by scripting language.  Galaxy editor might take a litlte getting used to.
