Re: BlizzCon: Since Lav is slow
Technically WoW didn't steal the name Tol Barad. WC2 did. It's a subtle difference, yes, but they stole that name a long, long time ago.Krazy wrote:New PvP Zone & Rated Battlegrounds
Take on PvP objectives and daily quests on Tol Barad Island, a new Wintergrasp-like zone, and wage war in all-new rated Battlegrounds.
So I see WoW is just blatantly stealing names from Lord of the Rings now. Nice.

They doing this for maps that are so different from sc2 that they are basically their own game, like they said they wouldn't charge dota since it uses mostly wc3 models and such.IskatuMesk wrote: what the FUCK @ allowing charging for maps. What the hell are they thinking?

Yes, and it's going to split the fanbase for those maps. I for one would never pay for a map, and I know a lot of people who wouldn't.
Blizzard says it'll only be maps with a lot of original content and if they approve it ect ect but it's still going to suck dick when you like a map and suddenly it goes premium and you need to pay to play it. It's just a bad idea all around and not the direction the community should be going towards.

Re: BlizzCon: Since Lav is slow
What's to stop someone from just purchasing a map once, recreating it (if necessary) and posting it somewhere else where everyone can get it for free? Not only is it a stupid idea, it would never work!

Probobly because blizzard is going to implement their own protection system.

Re: BlizzCon: Since Lav is slow
Unless they don't let people actually have a copy of the map when they purchase it (kinda like 'renting' a map) I'm sure people would be able to find a way around that.Hunter_Killers wrote: Probobly because blizzard is going to implement their own protection system.

Speaking of which they also mentioned cloud storage so you actually download maps from battle.net.

Re: BlizzCon: Since Lav is slow
I imagine this will entail a pretty small filesize limit aka the 4mb limit on wc3. Makes me curious how they plan on dealing with mods.Hunter_Killers wrote: Speaking of which they also mentioned cloud storage so you actually download maps from battle.net.

Re: BlizzCon: Since Lav is slow
Well on v1.14 of WC3, they increased the filesize limit to 8mb. So logically, it should carry out to SC2 as the smallest max file size if they don't increase it further.IskatuMesk wrote: I imagine this will entail a pretty small filesize limit aka the 4mb limit on wc3. Re: BlizzCon: Since Lav is slow
Nah, they said there would be monetary parts of b.net. I wasn't expecting them to do this, though. This just seems silly to me. Custom content has always been free and this could really spark something terrible.

Re: BlizzCon: Since Lav is slow
I highly doubt that people would be willing to pay to upload their maps the bnet servers anyway. Sites just like this would just host the maps for free and people would download them for free. I fail to see how Blizzard thinks this idea will work (unless I am interpretting this whole announcement wrong).
