Audacity Problem

Post by D3AtH_X »

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum here. I'd just like to say that I'm glad I found a website like this! lol

As a mapmaker, I usually use custom music in my maps (not using mods but with triggers). I do not know how to make mods or mpq's so that's out of the question. My real problem here is the program called "Audacity".

I recently got this program on my new computer about two weeks ago and I can't get it to work right. Whenever I open an MP3 or any other type of soundfile and play it, it sounds like a garbled up mess of crap. It's almost as if the program squeezed the song into itself like an accordion.

Does anyone know how I can fix this so that the song sounds normal again?

That's interesting.. I've never used Audacity.. But what's the process for opening files? Sounds like it might be importing it into a preset short workarea, squeezing it to fit. How long is the total track when opened?

And that is the length you know it is? Have you opened it outside of Audacity?

If I had to say something right now I'd say Audacity is not handling the file as a mp3 and tries to 'read' data, cause this kinda stuff happens when you for example try to interpret a doc as a audio file. Mabye you don't have the mp3 codec.

Now, I'm sorry to say, but I don't understand most of that computer lingo. I can play the file with Windows Media Player, Real Player, Limewire, Ares, and pretty much anything except Audacity.

One more note, the file was originally ripped off of a cd and put in Windows Media Player's library.

Have you tried opening the file in another sound editor?

do you have LAME installed for Audacity?

http://lame.sourceforge.net/index.php

In addition, I have noticed that Audacity freaks out with long MP3s. Maybe in another program, convert to WAV, then try bringing it into Audacity. Good luck.
Now with 50% more lol, 50% more win, and 100% phlail.

I have really bad experience with audacity.

You might want to try Goldwave instead. And yeah, you'll need LAME as well.

If available, Audition is probably your best bet for MP3 editing on a more professional level.

No offense, but if you expect to edit mp3s you need to know some of that lingo. The fact you can play it at other programs doesn't mean you got a codec for editing. LAME is indeed a codec. Wikipedia on the terms you do not get and read up.

He Has a point, D3AtH_X, what Maglok said is actually not "lingo" at all. Unless you're unfamiliar with "read" or "mp3" ... I think the most difficult word in there is "interpret." And English isn't even Maglok's primary language.

That was kind of a burn.. *cries* lol

But ya, I think I'll try Goldwave and see how my results are.

Goldwave works well. I'll message again if I have any more problems.
