Planetary Annihilation

Post by Taeradun »

another TA spiritual successor

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhEYvOYceNs
(first 1:40 is a mockup of potential gameplay, the rest is a bunch of fat dorks talking to the camera)

it's seeking funding through Kickstarter, so even if they reach their funding target there's no guarantees on it (gonna be a whole lot of hilarious nerdrage when the Ouya fails to materialise) but the studio producing it seem pretty legit so yeah

Can't say I found anything about TA enticing, but I haven't played it, only its existing "successors" (Supcom 1/2) which were both total disasters. I hope that should this go somewhere that they steer away from the cartoony look though.

I find it really cool how Kickstarter lives up to its namesake, carving into another key role of publishers. I wonder, with their diminishing control on distribution thanks to the internet, if we don't start to see publishers fracture into separate regionalization, customer service, and marketing firms. Given traditional newspapers still abound, I anticipate a slow decline into a smaller form of their earlier glory, unless they can figure out how to adapt with the changing times.

They must ensure that for at least every 14 minutes players get some action, satisfaction, retribution moments.

Holy shit! They were at $800,000 raised funds at the time of my above post, just $100k short of their primary goal. Right now, they are sitting on $2.2 million in donations.

Looks like a budget version of Dota 2 with a little less color.

Let's epic to me considering it's based off Total Annihilation.

Yes, let's epic. Let's all epic to Lav. He needs us.

Taeradun:
I find it interesting that they're displaying rough 3D concept art like that, though I suppose it's not surprising given that the public is now essentially the publisher, and normally a publisher is privy to all phases of development on a game. Following this will be educational if nothing else.
