Early starcraft campaigns on my machine

Post by chris »

ok, i was looking through my PC and I noticed I still had some campaigns that I had gotten a looooong time ago via my first SC CD waaaay back around 1999 (or 1998)
These campaings were made before brood war was even released.

One of these, retribution, is apparently the prequel to RCX's "Visions of the future" campaign

here you go

Retribution - author unknown http://files.filefront.com/Retribution/ ... einfo.html
insurrection - author unknown http://files.filefront.com/Insurrection ... einfo.html

Both don't need an exe.
Works with any version of SC, do not use on brood war, use on starcraft.

Actually, Insurrection and Retribution are the two third-party expansions that were authorized by Blizzard.  Uhm... I'm not sure of the legalities of sharing them these days, considering their relative unavailability.

As long as someone owns the rights to it, redistribution would be illegal.  Though even if you distributed to everyone who owned a copy of SC, at this point, the original owner of the rights to the title probably wouldn't care.

Also Insurrection and Retribution suck. I read reviews and they are rated like 0 or 1 out of 10 and have horrible reviews.

Insurrection is pretty bad. Retribution isn't too bad but its too repetitive.

edit: damn, I didn't know these campaigns were commercial..... Well at least I can be proud of the fact that I am one of the very few who still has a copy of these 2 add-ons.

That Retribution and Insurrection were officially licensed campaigns just means that they had money to give Blizzard that folks like us can't afford.

Any random campaign that's been hosted on CC is probably better than they are.

Plus they ruined it for us by making Blizzard believe that they should never ever license a campaign ever again. *sniff* Where's my LoaM money?

that is correct. Althought I did enjoy Retribution a bit. Actually I probably enjoyed those two because they were the first ever single player campaigns I ever say. The first CC campaign I ever saw was Resurgence by varanus which simply shocked me considering it was so much better compared to retribution and insurrection. My second exposure to a CC campaign came in the form of fallen angel and when I FINALLY got internet access in the end of 2006, I hunted the internet until I finally found CC in februrary (but I already told you that anyway :P)

wrong, I got these expansions unintentionally. In fact, they came bundled together with my first SC CD I bought.

They were never bundled officially.  Makes me wonder where you got em, it was likely a decision by the store to get rid of merchandise they couldn't move.

I never saw Insurrection at the store, but I bought Retribution just for kicks. Retribution in of itself wasn't bad, but it was really lacking in variation.

A mom-and-pop computer shop was selling WarCraft II with an "expansion" CD that had a bunch of WarCraft II maps in it for multiplayer purposes just to get rid of the product years ago. I told my mom I wanted the expansion and this is what she brought me back then.
