The Definitive PS3 Thread

Post by IskatuMesk »

This is an official sanctioned PS3 thread. It is dedicated to PS3 discussion ie; the abusing of Playstation Home to freak out sofas, new games, PSN ids, whatever the hell.

I'll start off.

I picked up Motorstorm: Pacific Rift yesterday after having played the demo for the last few days, what with nothing to do. It is a highly entertaining game. I enjoyed the aggressive nature of the F-Zero series and Motorstorm is a fairly aggressive game. There's a vehicle for everyone's style of play. Me? I enjoy taping jet engines onto Semi trucks and cleaving people, or running dudes over in the Monster Truck. I can't drive a bike or ATV worth shit. I haven't played a racing game in forever. About 1/6 through the single player.

Tried the Bioshock demo for the first time. Bored the hell out of me.

Tried Warhawk demo. Seemed very rushed. Maps are way too small. Good sounds though.

Did some research on Savage Moon. Wish it was in physical format so I could buy it. Will have to figure out the PS store and downlol it. It's pretty cheap but looks like a TD that might help me pass time and actually be entertaining as opposed to all of the crappy wc3 maps.

I also found out that Invision boards are the only boards so far that break the browser.

The browser also doesn't keep you logged in between usages.

YOU should play LittleBigPlanet.

I downloaded Burnout a few nights ago, the party pack (local multiplayer) was nothing of what I was expecting.. No classic Burnout-style "crash fest," but entertaining to say the least.

Aside that, I also addictive play Street Fighter 2 and Puzzle Fighter with my friends, so if you ever happen to own those, let me know, haha. I own, but don't play often, MK vs DC. I own because I got fed up of looking for it at Blockbuster for five weeks, haha.

I have the first Motorstorm, is was entertaining, but never finished it so I haven't played the second.

The PSN store is actually amazingly simple and "fast" compared to something like 360's DLC last I used it. It's more of an advanced version of Wii's shop channel. Obviously, the accounts are free to setup for lifetime, and you add DOLLARS to your account, not freakin' WiiPoints or Microsoft Points in increments of 500 when games sell for 300.

Eh. LittleBigPlanet never came off as interesting for me.

Also the whole points thing is something I see everywhere and it's just stupid. Why overcomplicate something as simple as just buying stuff? :\

Get past the cutesy appeal of LBP and some of the user generated levels are pretty intricate, though they'll never go any farther than a sidescroller in the end.

As for the points, there was a great blog post from the guy who made the Gordon Frohman comics, at www.hl2comic.com, on his blog, he said:
So, I’m a little cheesed with the whole Fallout 3 DLC thing.  If I were to set out with the goal of making the new Operation Anchorage DLC pack deliberately difficult to buy, download, and install, I never would have come up with something as annoying and trying as this whole fiasco.

And seriously, just let me buy it.  Why do I have to dick around with buying Microsoft Gamerbucks, or whatever the fuck they’re called.  Am I twelve?  Do I need to be using real money to buy fake money to buy content for a game I’ve already bought?  This is a game filled with murder and mayhem and enslaved children and F-bombs, why do I need to buy X-TREME PHUNBUX to get some more carnage?  It’s an adult game, I’m an adult person with an adult credit card, just let me buy the damn thing straight up.  It’s just lame.

I recently bought a PS3, but it isn't hooked up to the internet. With my wireless router upstairs and the PS3 downstairs, I'm not sure how this is going to work. Unless there's a wireless network device for PS3's that I don't know of.

I have just two games right now. Ninja Gaiden and Armored Core 4. If you've never heard of the AC series: it's awesome, get it now.

Damn it!

Anywho, I don't recall the settings since I'm at work, other than it's a default disabled option for WiFi access.

Meanwhile, I bought Little Big Planet, trying it and it's kind of fun. A bit hard to find it more amusing when I got a slight headache but anyway.

Otherwise, I got Grand Theft Auto 4 and Metal Gear Solid 4 although I barely played them but still got them for multiplayer nonetheless.

I rarely played MGS4 for multiplayer.. Singleplayer however.. My god it's amazing. Prepare yourself though. The ending CUTSCENE is around three hours.

I... have one...

I have no idea what my account is, though.  I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that it's probably BilltheEmu@whateverthefuck

I have a grand total of three games: MGS4, Fallout 3, and Mirror's Edge.  Yeah... not much else looks interesting to me.  I was thinking about Little Big Planet, but I'm just not sure.  I also downloaded Symphony of the Night, which is awesome.  I would really like to see more PS1 games available to download, it's kindof annoying how limited the selection is.

It's only your account name that matters regardless of the e-mail you used (ex : if you wrote BilltheEmu as your username, it's BilltheEmu).
I was thinking about Little Big Planet, but I'm just not sure.
So far I didn't play enough in-depth to make a solid recommendation yet but here's the details I saw so far :
-> The game is more a Mario-like platform game at his base but with lots of extra "sandbox" features on top of it.
-> Able to customize your character's looks in lots of ways (costumes + whatever "stickers" like flowers, tails on it).
-> Short Local Singleplayer (can be done fairly quickly except for the optional 2+ players parts)
-> Map Editor (can create your own levels) although I heard it's time consuming to make anything interesting.
-> Singleplayer/Multiplayer over the Internet to play others' published custom maps. In the long run, this part is the main reason you would buy this game.
-> Ability to "screw around" by putting around things around randomly (including on your own character) such as pictures, tails and other stuff.
-> Ability to take screenshots/photos in-game (must be standing unfortunately).
-> Ability to customize your "home" space pod. Minor but an interesting extra touch nonetheless.
-> DLC-wise, there are various optional costumes at 2$ each including a non-free MGS4 Snake one and 3 free ones.

And finally, here's my "sackboy" looks like. Vanilla (without clothes, "real hair" and so on) but only 3 donkey tails as "hair" on his head.

EDIT : Lavarinth should totally show the sackboy sets he and her girlfriend made.
EDIT 2 : Which in case he don't know, make photo in-game, select photo & export to HDD (in LBP), copy picture in PS3 menu to some USB key and copy JPG file from USB key's PICTURE main folder when plugged to computer.

EDIT 3 : Bah, any taken photo is upsized/downsized to 320x180 which I find rather ridiculous. I want to use my PS3's HD space for god's sake (or shake as I usually spell it).

EDIT 4 : I think it's even possible to create a map with multiple players.
