Saw it a few days ago- Note it's 90 minutes long. Also, download the high quality, YouTube one isn't worth it. But also better if you watch the previous two (although note: the previous two are NO WHERE near the quality of the third)

Yeah I watched the first two and the first one I watched a first few minutes and no sound but i finished it, the second one was okay but the action was as good as the third one because they used WoWModelViewer more for some of the good battle scenes in the third like Arthas vs Blazer. After getting the story the Third one made the final part of the story really good.

Yeah I watched this when it released. First of all it's really good.
As a audio guy I wanna note though that the audio (voices only) is seriously lacking. It's capping in several bits and the difference of quality is very noticable. What is cool though is that it seems they applied foley stuff to all scenes, makes it real nice to hear.

I like the music they use, like Star Wars music when they are in the "Emerald Dream" which was weird but i do understood why they used Nagrand for the Emerald Dream.
The voicing at most parts did lack especially for characters like Saurfang and various other characters, but other ones were good such as the dwarves, Rexxar, Thrall, Arthas was okay especially the voice with the crown on his head. Though Blizzard may have all that high-tech equipment to make good voices the voices were pretty decent for people with just microphones and probably Adobe Audition.
They're two reviews I read on Blizzplanet if you havent read them.

Nonsense. You don't need an expensive studio to make your voices sound good.

Nonsense indeed, I agree with Maglok. It takes not some special studio. Just talent. They just didn't use the right voices for majority of their characters.

Well I mean they still had great voices for most of their characters. Though they did make Saurfang sound like he was constipated at Orgrimmar.

Personally I was impressed by Morgraine's voice and the editing on it when he was undead. Nice work on that one.
Also turns out I know one of the VAs of that movie.

I didnt like the whisper they gave Arthas but when he put the crown on it was a lot better voice.Maglok wrote: Personally I was impressed by Morgraine's voice and the editing on it when he was undead. Nice work on that one.

Thrall Rexxar and Serphentos' voice i like the most also. Jaina's seemed to whimpy it sounded like in a bad situation she was about to cry all the time.

You don't need them to sound good, but you do need them to make them professional quality. A $15 mic simply won't get you what a $100 mic will.Maglok wrote: Nonsense. You don't need an expensive studio to make your voices sound good.![]()
I've done without a good mic for the most part of my 'recording-life', but I find that having professional quality equipment helps a lot!
By the way, the voices in this movie, save for the capping, RULE!

Re: Tales of the Past III
Ah then we differ on what is a expensive studio. If your talking about a 100$ mic I think of that as possible to invest in a fan film like that. I personally have both a stage and studio mic at home. Both are great quality (imho) and both are quite affordable. When you say expensive studio I think about the 500+$ condensator mics in air tight rooms with 'to-big-for-the-room' mixing panels.
These days without to much investment you can really do a lot just at home.

Re: Tales of the Past III
Hehe yeah! I wasnt even considering those condensator mics. It's not those are going to sound better on a computer. You'd need a processing device that makes a lot less internal static noises. =)
No, man. $100 is the limit for me.
