Doesn't surprise me too much. I also think they avoided it because gotta be pc or the casuals gonna whine on casualtaku!!Jim_Raynor wrote:This is thoughts from listening to the just review since my internet is too awful to download the LP:
The missing women and children in The Last of Us (at least the women, the children may have been discretion or something stupid like that) was, according to the developers, a memory problem.

I am cleaning up portions of the LP thread for more up to date information, brevity in some descriptions, more organized Extra video descriptions/layout, and the addition of Developer material.
- I have removed some titles from the LP considers. This is not necessarily because I don't plan to do them, but I don't plan to do them in the foreseeable future. I realize listing my entire library is pointless because some stuff is just going to take a very long time to get into my sights.
- I am removing some vintage games from the SNES etc listings that are already listed on an internal list, again for brevity. This is just to keep it clean for my personal documentation, e.g. I'm only listing stuff that is NOT on that list for my own benefit.
- I have decided to release all of the current uploaded Retribution developer material. This is located in the secondary portion of the Mesk Content Extras.

We started recording War in the North. Wow. This game is fucked up. HKS gets vpu crashes, wibod just flat out crashes. I've managed to dodge both so far, but everything else is totally hosed. This is going to be really silly.
I'll probably pick up Rondo of Blood as my next major non-coop title, though.

Got to love how the explosion is FIRST displayed in TV and then a good 2 seconds later you see it in the actual world. Well done last of us. You so realistic, you make LSD simulator run for it's money.
I'm through the first 2 segments, and wow, how did you find anything redeemable in this game? Maybe I'll have to watch some more, but holy shit so far this game is anus. The busted AI is more entertaining then the actual game.

Re: LP Update/Comment Thread
The game has some good points. But the AI is probably some of the worst I have ever seen. Only the THQ and souls titles really get worse than this.
I doubt they ever had a "working" AI like their original reveals suggest. In all likelihood it was just prescripted for show and that was it. I can't see a developer throwing away that work and ending up with this.
But, believe me, if you want a busted game, few things can top lotr: war in the north.

Re: LP Update/Comment Thread
If the Last of Us is not a survival horror game (you know, like Clock Tower or Silent Hill, which it isn't), then why have clunky controlls ? If you have such potential with the existing setting in regard to exploration (I thought the setting was quite interesting as far as zombie settings go), then why make this game so corridor-y and not interesting to explore (just a tiny few logs and diaries and bits and pieces as for example compared to glory that is, just as a reference, System Shock 2 audio logs) ? If you strive for combat realism, then why have trajectory changing homing bottles and bricks ?
Somehow it was quite a boring game to watch (the Ellie portions felt the best to watch, as in most interesting), but the premise was very good. Felt like there was much wasted potential, substance missing within the gaps of this game. The story, the setting, the graphics, the delivery of story elements were the strong points. All IMO.

Re: LP Update/Comment Thread
Also about "games as art" I think that's a non-issue, because in my opinion, there is no such thing as Art, and it's all just mental masturbation by so called scholars of "Art". It is just a term loaded with elitism. If a work is brilliantly executed and loaded with heart and meaning, it's good enough to me. Everything else is just a young medium(s) being unrecognized by the established ones. Like cinema was, and science fiction was in comparison to classical literature. It has taken decades for this stuff to get canonical works, and games are too multifaceted (that is, they always, always have some shortcoming or another ruining the whole experience, because of too many cooks) to be considered proper "Art" in their entirety. Well there are some exceptions like games like "La Mulana" which strictly adhere to creators vision because they are made by 1 fucking guy.
There was a science fiction author Theodore Sturgeon, whose work I greatly like, who said, to some lady criticizing in some convention that "90% of science fiction is crud", to which he replied: "but 90% of everything is crud", which was afterwards called "Sturgeon's Law".

Re: LP Update/Comment Thread
A new AWP is out, discussing our current and future workloads.
Bayonetta verification is coming along slowly but surely.
I am set to start Rondo of Blood when I feel like it, probably after I have cleaned up my drives a bit.
Going to start compiling my XXE-worthy footage soon.
Updates to the thread mentioned in the AWP are already done.

Re: LP Update/Comment Thread
Hey fellas.
As you may have noticed over time, CC's site can go down unexpectedly, sometimes for several weeks at a time (and boy, did you let me know). At the behest of your cries I have whipped the Lavarinth into shape, and this is what we have done.
We have switched the site (being Campaign Creations) to the same server my LP files are currently situated on.
Now, the site was on this server in the distant past, but it was annoyingly common for the site to slow down or do strange things on it. Not "two weeks downtime" strange things, but strange enough that gave us cause to try the other server in the first place.
So, Lavarinth's going to see what he can do to ensure the server stays up this time around.
Meanwhile, I highly recommend using something like Jdownloader or DownThemAll (firefox addon) for downloading the LP's, or basically anything, if you aren't already. Simply to be able to resume any downloads that may have hiccups at any point.
Anyways, now that the forum is on the right server, you can expect me to throw the Bayonetta files up today.
Verification of Lord of the Rings: War in the North is well under way.
Stay tuned.
/edit
Bayonetta is now up, but I haven't gotten around to fiddling with the review yet. So that's not up, currently.

Re: LP Update/Comment Thread
oh wow, Bayonetta is almost not oversexualized. But atleast they don't try to hide it but make it part of her character, so it's okay. They seemed to have put some thought into combat, so I'm looking forward to the rest of this game.

Bayonetta's character was designed by a high fashion designer. Her proportions are designed for showing off the weird shit common in that area. Hence she looks like a giraffe/horse.

Re: LP Update/Comment Thread
Rondo recordings have restarted.
Oh this is going to be a painful one to watch. Just like R-type 3.
/e
Rondo recordings complete.
If you enjoy watching me get angry and fail absolutely terribly, like in R-type 3, this will be fantastic.
