Re: LP Update/Comment Thread
XXE 14 is now available!

I have started recording The Last of Us. This game appears to be extremely annoying to play. I am already having doubts if I will actually finish it. I guess I can consider it rectal practice for when I play something like that Golden Axe game... ugh.

Ok, I got past that part. I sure died a lot, though. I am probably even more shitty at stealth than I am puzzles.

They are on my to-do list. Probably not for a long time, but I will eventually do them.

Re: LP Update/Comment Thread
They're both fantastic games, IMO. Though if I had to pick one out of the whole series, it'd be 3. 4 is, well... I enjoyed the gameplay, but the story is a complete clusterfuck, which is why I didn't mention that one. Whichever game you do start, yeah, you'd definitely be in it for the long haul.
There's also Revengeance, the hilariously named hack-and-slash spinoff. Short and sweet in comparison to the above.

Re: LP Update/Comment Thread
I have 2-4 and Revengeance already, but I'll probably emulate anything on the ps2. Revengeance is something I wanted to get done this year, but I should probably do the others first.
I tried to play 3 a while back on the tv/console but that TV is too small/shitty to see anything, so doing anything like shooting radios was just completely impossible. I got past the first boss before it became too much of a chore to play it, so I decided to hold it off until later.
/edit
I am progressing in Last of Us pretty steadily now. A problem I am encountering is that speech seems to be fairly quiet, especially compared to combat audio. HKS says this might be because of the game defaulting to 5.1, but I can't figure out any difference in the game's audio settings, since they don't specifically say 5.1. or not (and seeing them to headphones has no real effect).
/edit 2
The Last of Us is now fully recorded and undergoing verification.
/edit 3
I have started recording Bayonetta. I am going to try to get this done before the heat comes back.
If I finish it sooner than expected, then I'll try to do Dragon's Dogma.
Like I said previously, I want to focus on recordings for a while, so if I can get some ps3 stuff done before the heat gets nuts then I'll take every chance to.

Eh. It has good points and bad points. Not nearly as bad as many of the games I have done recently, but could sure have used some polish, especially in the gameplay.

Re: LP Update/Comment Thread
That's a relief, TLoU was the game I most enjoyed for PS3 and one of my favourite games regardless of console, so it's nice to not see it ripped into too much. Living out in the rural areas of Canada means my internet is awful, but I might watch some of the LP if I can.
I've played TLoU five times and I didn't ever actually experience your problem with the audio, that's weird.

Re: LP Update/Comment Thread
It's a combination of my audio volume being low and (maybe?) some inconsistency with either the old console version and/or the way they have EAX and their balancing set up.
Thankfully, for the LP, the compressor seems to handle it quite well and at some point I just give the volume a huge boost.
I rip into most games, this one included, but I left it feeling a lot better about it than any game I would consider objectively bad. It's far from bad, but it's far from "10/10 AAA goty".
Anyways, I'll leave the details for the review and the LP, because going any further would be spoiler material.
I am now many hours into Bayonetta, which also seems to be a decent game, albeit some QTE and loading annoyances.

Re: LP Update/Comment Thread
Nice to see you getting some darn LPs done. Even more so - not bad games. I personally heavily value your critical approach - cause I've yet to meet a person who considers himself being not sufficiently self-critical - so at this point there simply cannot be a case of critique not having some sort of merit.
I liked Metal Slug venture. Hopefully some more arcades in the future - change of pace and genre is good for expanding horizons. Really looking forward to Castlevania titles as well.
And, oh, yeah, the incredibly politically correct musical ventures ^_^
Rooting for you, m8. Keep up the good work.

Re: LP Update/Comment Thread
Once the heat picks up and it's too hot to run the ps3 anymore you'll see more arcade and emulated stuff in general.
/edit
Bayonetta is fully recorded.
Verification of Last of Us is almost complete. ETA a few days I guess.

Re: LP Update/Comment Thread
The Last of Us is now available. A slow-moving game with some butthurt and silliness, this is a requested run that is finally fulfilled.
I am now going to work on verifying Bayonnetta.
Lord of the Rings: War in the North or Dragon's Crown seem likely to be attempted by us as a group at some point, but as AWP has described, schedules are troublesome.
Otherwise, I am not quite sure where to go from here. I'd still like to knock some more ps3 titles off my list, but if the heat ramps up, we'll probably see the long-awaited Castlevania runs being re-attempted.

Re: LP Update/Comment Thread
This is thoughts from listening to the just review since my internet is too awful to download the LP:
The missing women and children in The Last of Us (at least the women, the children may have been discretion or something stupid like that) was, according to the developers, a memory problem. Most of their problems with graphics were memory as well, actually. Of course I doubt that means they're going to go out of their way to fix all these problems in the Remastered version for PS4, but it could explain some of the flaws in this version.
Maybe I just go into games expecting something different, but I really enjoyed the long, slow exploring portions. I agree that the music was sometimes pretty cliche but being able to have a breather from combat (even a really long breather) made the game feel more organic to me. It was also nice to hear the banter between the characters, something I think a lot of games skip out on.
It's funny you're saying so much it should be a movie, they're actually going to be making a movie apparently, but like every other video game to movie adaptation I'll believe it when I see it.
