Nothing like showing off your next-generation platform by featuring something current.
Or that amazing Final Fantasy announcement.

I can't believe that guy flew all the way out from Japan to say that.

Say what, exactly- I couldn't even understand him. No offense to him, but I literally had no idea if he said we're going to announce a new game this year or release a game this year. ???

There's a benchmark to play around with now.

Media tour they did also ended a while ago.

In a similar vein to the above, this looks rather interesting as well. Very moving.

Hmmm..... no.....

I don't think that there were enough polygons in there for an emotional reaction. Try again on the PS4, Mr. Cage.

I'm looking forward to more details about Cyberpunk, though. That was a pretty great teaser, and I'd like to find out how well that represents the actual game, as far as tone and style. I like CD Projekt Red. The Witcher wasn't my favorite game ever, but I liked some of the things they did. Plus I'll totally support a company with their particular stance on DRM and DLC (none and free, respectively).

Has your blackened heart been corroded by years of cynicism and apathy? =oP Dwell on the insignificant, and you disconnect yourself from the idea.

The mouth had some issues, particularly during the language/singing section. I suspect it might have more to do with the fact that they mo-capped different actresses during the German, French, and Japanese parts, then translated that motion over to the original actress' model. Because they have different facial features, I don't think the translation was entirely successful.

It's in-game, though, not a pre-rendered cinematic, made by the people behind Hard Rain. So no infinite polygons, subsurface scattering, ray tracing, or other fancy techniques like in the Cyberpunk video above.

Nah. Well, maybe a little, but, mostly my cynicism is directed toward David Cage. My comment about the polygons was in reference to his comments during the PS4 reveal. Essentially he is suggesting that with the newer technology of the PS4, he will be better able to convey emotion, and present more mature subject matter. And essentially everyone on the internet has called him out for making such an absurd statement.

I didn't find anything wrong at all with the video, visually. It looked pretty good to me. But yeah, I suppose as soon as I saw "Quantic Dream" I did go into cynical mode, a bit.

I played Heavy Rain a few months ago. I have conflicting opinions about it, though. On the one hand, I respect what Cage and co. were trying to do. Video games are an interactive medium, and that doesn't necessarily mean shooting everything. I appreciate the idea of games using interactivity to tell better stories, to make more emotional connections, and involve the audience. I'm glad that Heavy Rain was made, because it seems like a step in the right direction.

But on the other hand, I didn't think it was particularly good. It had some decent moments, and did, at times, succeed in being "emotional." But it also had some bad moments, and some pretty big disconnects. It could have been better if the writing and execution were improved. I saw the potential, and I was optimistic for where ideas like this could go in the future. I like to be optimistic about stuff like this.

But then I hear the creator of Heavy Rain telling us how he finally has enough polygons to make something TRULY emotional, and my optimism gets punched in the face. He also implied that movies were a medium that improved its storytelling capabilities through improved technology. No, David Cage. Get better at writing. Get better at involving the player in the story. That's what you should be focusing on.

In the Kara video I see the improvements in graphical quality, it's hard to miss. But I see zero improvement in writing. I see David Cage leaning over my shoulder, whispering "Feel sad!" because all of the sad cues are there. It takes a theme that's been done many times before, the AI come alive, and pulls out the sympathetic bits, and builds a six minute video based on that alone. There's nothing wrong with reusing a theme, or story, in fact, there could potentially be an interesting game based on that premise. But that tech demo only attempts to extract the elements it needs to be manipulative. I feel like Johnny 5 was more compelling.

The teaser for Cyberpunk, on the other hand, I like much better, and not just because of how nice it is visually. In about a third of the time, with almost no dialog, it gets me much more interested in what's going on. It uses its short time, and few shots, to show off bits of what appears to be an interesting world, and makes me want to know more about it. It's hard to directly compare a pre-rendered teaser trailer for a game to a real-time tech demo that isn't attached to any sort of game at all, though. I could totally break down why I like the Cyberpunk trailer, though, and why I'm more interested in that than I would be an actual Kara game. But this is already too much of a wall of text. Also, you already posted a video that breaks down the trailer. I'll go watch that now, and see what they have to say about it.
