To be honest I think my voice is gay, too.

It used to be a lot worse than it is now but it still sounds retarded. I literally can't even watch my old casts it's so bad. I'm trying to train myself out of it.

I'm Taeradun and I'm apparently not a CC veteran because I didn't join until like 2002 or something

Re: Getting to know the community
I've been dabbling in campaign-making since StarCraft 1 (I don't remember that year because I'm an old fart) but I never completed anything of my own. I used to be the go-to guy for cutscenes in the BroodWar days. I did a few pieces of work for The Downward Spiral (I miss him
) and Eli (the dude that tried to make that fantasy game WITH THE RANDOM DIRECTION GROWING TREEZOMG!), but I was never a superstar about it.
I have kept up my experimental activities with everything from WC3 to SC2, since, and have yet to finish anything I start because for some reason every time I start to make a campaign, I also start to produce a movie.
Oh yeah, I'm a movie producer. I'm not famous there, either. Although I just got taken out to dinner with the good folks over at Adventure Quest, last night.
I built a life-size battle-cruiser bridge set. And then I promptly tore it down.
I also am probably the absolute best voice actor here. But good luck getting me to finish any of the work you send me.
I'm a terrible, terrible person.

Funny enough, my evil ex-girlfriend would sometimes walk in while I was listening to your rants in the background of my work and she'd totally say "who's that annoying gay guy you're listening to?" At which point I would whimper and cry.IskatuMesk wrote:To be honest I think my voice is gay, too.

Re: Getting to know the community
I love how this thread is evolving into a discussion about peoples' voices.
Speaking of which, are there any people here doing voice acting for campaigns and such?

Re: Getting to know the community
I think most people here are capable of voice acting to various degrees. I personally made it my mandate to fully VA everything I did since I started modding 11-12 years ago, and had about 5-6 years of non-digital acting experience prior to that.

Re: Getting to know the community
I was here when it started. I got SC1 the day it came out... or the week. And within about a month I had my first set of maps finished. Nothing fancy. Just a completely voice-acted, totally-converted exciting adventure telling the story Blizzard would only come up with months later. I have an email where they admit taking parts of my script and using it in their Brood War campaigns. Ask me to send it over PM if you're interested. Anyway, I evolved. The "from zero to hero" transformation happened early for me- and fast. Within a year of my registering here, I had become a celebrity, an idol, a god. My voice work, being of outstanding quality, was featured in most every fan-made piece of shit this place was offering. I started out voicing everything for Joel Steudler (he took all the credit) and then my testicles dropped and I started taking other, more mature roles.
Since I am one of the oldest registered users here, people have been able to contact me for years. And contact me about a lot of shitty things they did. Want to know how many questions along the lines of "How did you create this heavenly Protoss voice?" I got over the years? Thousands. Maybe even hundreds. I'd always answer saying something about "trying your best" and "finding the inspiration in your heart", realizing only later that those question-askers had neither a best nor a heart. Who could blame them? But it made my journey a lonely one.
I've made enemies here, most notably Lavarinth who I seem to have offended at some point by being better than him.
Anyway, like most here, I'm not half as serious as I look sometimes (but sometimes I am!!!) and I'm happy to have stood together with this community through the server moves and downtimes, the bad games, the suicides, the Blizzard rants and the contests. There's no place like this one.
ps.
Your voice is fine Iskatu. Really.
