I would like to spread the word around about this new contest series, hosted on SEN. I know a lot of people here are very skilled mappers, and I would hate for you to miss out on this opportunity. Please stop by and give it a look. With real cash prizes and professional organization, I hope it is something many will enjoy =D

Thank you!

Those rules sure are forbidding to what map makers make outside of a contest..

I like how you continually throw around the word "professional", but then I see this -
Use of map supplements such as EUD enablers or mods are not permitted.
You want professionalism but at the same time... you don't. Okay. Moving right along.

Also can't use music not created by yourself.

Imagine where Oracle, Gemini, Desler, RCX, Laconius and more would be had this been the "golden rule" or campaign creating without limitations.

Hah. The only people with music in their campaigns at all would be myself and Jim. That's a depressing turnout, indeed.

Well, music I've created and could use that. But by arbitrarily excluding modding you're completely preventing multiple mediums of content creation. I guess, if it's a "mapping" contest and your goal is to remove content creation, then that's all :3, but I wouldn't call it professional to make an arbitrary limitation of such caliber so late into the game's lifespan where creativity should be encouraged and not prevented.

Also, the contest's description comes off at the very least as pretentious and at most hilarious. The first contest where "professionalism is expected"? I would think every contest expects professionalism, but this seems more like a swing at every site/contest previous.

Good luck and all, though.

According to his statements, you must make the music during the contest.

In addition, with only a $15 dollar physical prize, I figured this may be because of the fact there's not much money to give out to have a large amount of prizes. But, I hope he's aware a "senior judge" who is shipping the product could pay upwards to five times the amount of the prize to ship something anywhere in the glove as opposed to the same country. It sucks, but it's just the way it works. One of my prizes to send out cost 90 dollars for shipment.

Well, if he just offers monetary payments he can do it through paypal.

I'm sure he's thought this all through, though.

I hope Jack wins. I'm rooting for him. Unfortunately it seems the campaign contest really tuckered him out.

I attempted to leave it open as possible, but after discussing it with some other people, I took a hard stance against particular things.

Professional in attitude. I created it as a level design contest, not a game design contest. In my experience and observations, enabling mods is not only detrimental to a contest a week long, but also a turn off to people who don't know how to mod and can make them feel like they're missing out on crucial aspects if they participate.

EUD enabler support may be added later, but for now I was attempting to keep it simple and straight. Let's not add extra stuff just yet.

In a campaign I would assuredly permit music. During this contest I decided to not change the rules for two reasons: 1) it is not particularly crucial to the theme, and 2) it's difficult to manage in a week-long time frame. Rest-assured music and sfx will be allowed in future versions, but it is going to require some more rules.

Mostly a swing at SEN's contests, with their impossibly late judging times and complete levity-- they were a train wreck.

I realize, shipping to AU or NZ is 22.95 + cost of item. I do not mind this. I said world-wide shipping, and I'll support it. The prize amount may not be extravagant, but it is only a week long contest, and I'm just starting to get into gear.

---

I've given this loads of thought. Ever since conception I've been writing notes and discussing ideas with other close mappers. I love doing this sort of thing, and I really hope it'll grow into something spectacular.

Also Mesk, you just jelly you don't know how to map =p <3

How do you know I don't know how to map? You do realize that I was mapping before I was modding, right? Just because I don't know EUD's doesn't mean I've never mapped before.

Granted most of my experience is with wc3/d2/sc2 but I definitely know how to fuse the two worlds together.

You don't have to be so defensive, I'm just poking fun at the general modder stereotype ;_;

I can never be certain when one of your judges has shown enormous bias against modding in the past. :(
