OJ got off with 2 murders. People are upset about American justice now but it's comparatively better than some European countries and a lot of other places; if you want someone to blame for the verdict, blame the jurors or the prosecution.

Gotta blame the jurors on this one.

Why did this case get so much attention anyway?

I haven't heard a thing about it before today, but that's probably because it was never picked up by the Canadian media.
I'm going to go with the jury finding this case to be too horrible to believe and choosing to cling to the fantasy that she was innocent rather than believe that this sort of thing could actually happen.

Re: Casey Anthony: Not guilty
In America, it's the burden of the Prosecution to PROVE "beyond reasonable doubt" the Accused's Guilt. It is not the responsibility of the accused to prove their innocence, and thank God for that.
Nobody likes this bitch, but that's no reason to kill the shit out of her. A lot of people don't like you, so unless you want to die, fuck the fuck off.
The Defense team was a lousy sack of shit in this case, but that's irrelevant. The Prosecution could not - ever - present any amount of evidence that could not be refuted. So long as there is reasonable doubt, the jury CAN NOT and SHOULD NOT render a "Guilty" verdict. That is the law.
So she got slammed for lying to the cops, because we could prove that she did. But there was nothing proving that she killed her daughter, considering Prosecution couldn't even - for the life of them (har har har) - offer up an undeniable method of murder. Get that? Not even a fucking method.
So no. Casey's not guilty, not by law. Maybe she did it, but don't blame the jurors. Blame the Prosecution.

I hadn't even heard of this thing until this past week and I could tell even then that Casey Anthony was going to walk. I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out what the Prosecution was trying to convey happened.
