Join Custom Game
Several improvements have been made to the Join Custom Game section:
The Details panel has been removed from this page. Map details are now shown inside a tooltip for each game.
Players can now bookmark their favorite custom games! The number of times a game has been bookmarked will be shown in that game's tooltip.
Games are now organized into several pages to make finding your desired game type easier:
Featured: Our team is always on the lookout for new games that are lots of fun. Our latest favorites are shown on this page.
Most Popular: Shows all game types, with the most played games sorted to the top.
By Category: This page allows you to browse through Custom Games based on Category.
Up & Coming: This page highlights games that other players are recommending, but haven't yet become popular.
Fun or Not: From this page you can automatically join a random new Custom Game. After the game, players using Fun or Not are asked to recommend the map (or not). Recommending maps helps get them onto the Up & Coming page.
Recently Played: The last several games you’ve played are shown here. Use this to quickly get back into games you play often, or to easily bookmark a game you enjoyed playing.
Bookmarks: Use this page to view your Bookmarked maps.
A search option has been added to the Join Custom Game interface.
Still no currently hosted list, of course. Ugh.
Also there's this:
Units leaving the Mothership's Vortex are now un-targetable and immune to damage for 1.5 seconds.
Yeah, I think the main weakness is no hosted list so far. However, it's finally a real step in the right direction. To be honest, I had pretty much lost faith and I thought that they would honestly try to stick to their original ideology/design to the bitter end except for any changes related to cash cow reasons (such as the marketplace).
The "Fun or Not" + "Up and coming" aspects could end up being a reasonable fix. Although, it's hard to tell only on a PTR since you can't really test it with barely anyone on it. All I hope is it doesn't end up just being a secondary filter that most usual popular maps somehow ends up as well there.
A slight nerf for the Infestor's Fungal Growth and for some reason, another one to High Templar, the only anti-air AoE that Protoss has (besides Archons).

For the Fungal Growth, I have no idea why they changed it like that.
As for the HT, it seems the main reason is being able to warp-in HTs instantly with a storm charge which can turn tides heavily in pro games and such.
Fungal growth was halved in duration, but apparnelty still does the same total damage output, which means a healer will have a harder time countering its effect, and now it is focused towards armored, which means thors and ultras might be more butthurt by it.
They apparently hated Viking flowers and Archon toilets tho.
A hosted list would have the problem that plagues the popularity system ten-fold; fuck that archaic mechanic. Displaying maps rather than individual games is a more efficient use of the list space and ensures broader exposure of maps.

Okay, guess I forgot to mention a detail or two. Basically, I do imply a hosted list but the most recent hosted map up while not having duplicates of the same map (thus not the true SC1/WC3 old school method).
Since Blizzard probably prefer to keep their popularity system over it then such hosted list should have the most popular maps (like pages 1-3) cut out. Thus it would actually shows different maps than on existent lists (otherwise odds are page 1-3 of both such hosted list and popularity will be very similar).
ITT: We don't understand why WC3 was better with its flaws fixed.
Hunter_Killers wrote:Theres going to be problems with the hosting/joining system until they get rid of popularity entirely. WC3's system had its own issues which alot of them could've been fixed like game refreshing, all SC2 needs is the same type of game listing without showing duplicate maps (5+ same DotA) without any form of sorting or favoritism towards a map including games that aren't open.
Really I don't care that alot of people play/like DotA/SotIS/whatever but don't penalize everyone when they try to host a not so popular or new map by forcing anyone that might have otherwise joined to scroll to the bottom of an extensive list.
Sure I can go stick all of my favorite maps in my bookmarks but what problem is this solving? Nothing.
How many times are we going to go backwards before moving forwards again?
Maybe you forgot the old B.net 2.0 had it listed by map but you could expand that map to individual games.
And Sreg, have you already forgotten how they removed the ability to host off our own comp, forcing the "inappropriate content", size and number restrictions on all multiplayer maps? It would be difficult to reinstate this without a game list, due to the possibility of maps with the same name.
Xenon, I have not forgotten; if we were able to host locally, it would necessitate the existence of a hosted game list. Since we are unable to host locally, it would be a poor design decision.
