DADT Repealed!

Post by AA7Dragoon »

As you know, an issue near and dear to my heart has finally found closure. Today, the Senate voted to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell, a policy that discriminated and destroyed the lives of our men and women in the military. The United States can now join other civilized militaries like Israel, Britain, Germany and a dozen other nations in allowing gay men and women to serve their country proudly. Because on the battlefield it doesn't matter who you love, only the flag you serve.

There's so many subnotes on this- Such as how long before it's fully repealed, how long before "training" on repealing begins.. Etc, etc. But the bottom line is yes, it is, in time.

Honestly, Over a decade ago this may have been an issue, but not in our times.

The Defense Secretary and the Undersecretaries said it would take months, not years so it sounds like something that will get done before the next election.

The DREAM Act, which was to give millions of illegal immigrants either amnesty or a path to citizenship, failed and may not be revisited until 2012. The other 2 big things on the docket is the bill providing free healthcare for 9/11 rescue workers which should pass and the new START treaty, which is seeing some Republican support.

What's REALLY worrying is this bill, which has support from both parties, that would literally blacklist any website from American Internet users which "promoted piracy". It's not quite on par with the Internet censorship in China or Saudi Arabia, but definitely a worrying step to say the least.

The executive branch has already attacked websites without congressional approval. There's already been talk of a publicly-distributed alternative to URLs to circumvent it, but the MPAA, RIAA and other media companies have proved time and time again that they don't care that their attempts to stop piracy don't work. One prevented pirated copy is worth a thousand frustrated potential customers, apparently. A disgusting development in any case.

The only reason they want to do all this stuff now is because they knew it would hurt their election prospects, especially in the case of the pork-filled, 1900-page spending bill and the DREAM act. I wouldn't put it past Reid to try to cram through "cap and trade" and "card check" either.
