Re: Yay!
I bought my first car around 2008 after leasing it since 2005, it's quite a liberating feeling. It'll be moreso when I pay it off and it truly is mine. Only thousands more to go!

I suppose Americans handle these things a little differently from us Europeans. How long do you usually own the same car? I'm sure there's differences in taxes also.Lavarinth wrote:I bought my first car around 2008 after leasing it since 2005, it's quite a liberating feeling. This car is mine, I paid for it today, and I'm looking to keep it for about 4 years before I start looking for a new one.

Re: Yay!
I am one sole person, I can't tell you about everyone else. I've been using this car for 5 years, have no intentions of selling it. I almost did a few months ago, then I realized Bumblee was just too uncomfortable for daily usage (yes, I was going to buy the Chevy Camaro in yellow from Transformers) after I rented it when I flew out somewhere.
Obviously not everyone has thousands of dollars in hand, so they aren't expected to pay everything up front, Legion, I leased the car meaning I was basically renting it for three years (however many years you are setup for) and at that point I could either return it, or pay the difference of the original price when you first leased it. Most people lease cars to get the latest model three years later, I'm sure, but fortunately for me, my little 2005 Mazda 3 was the last year they actually looked cool. Every year past that they looked more and more like damn bunny rabbit faces on the front, so I kept mine instead and bought the car from the lease. Obviously I didn't have close to 10k on hand to pay it off fully, so I took out a loan from my bank and am currently paying that off for five years, I am on year 2 and it's hardly been an issue.

Re: Yay!
My family uses cars until they literally break. My mom didn't get a new car until her's started smoking after use, and my dad didn't get a new one until my mom crashed it into another car. >_<

Re: Yay!
I recently purchased my first car, a 2001 Ford Ranger, in cash because I desperately want to cling to my remaining days of debt-free youth.

It's a shame you weren't conceived slightly later, old sport; then you could take advantage of growing up with advanced-enough technology that allows you to document your entire life, and therefore pinpoint the exact moment your invulnerable, fancy-free disposition was destroyed.Lavarinth wrote: I wish I knew what that was..
