SC2 Editor
Now that the game has been released for a few days, I'm pretty sure that those of us who were waiting in line at midnight release or have bought the game the first day have had time to play the campaign and kick some noob ass on multiplayer. I've done both of these already and now I want to move on to learning how to use the editor for the game, and possibly start a new project. So, who has messed with the editor yet? If you have messed with it, what do you like and what don't you like? Is it as good as, worse, or better than the editor from the first StarCraft? Any other things you found on your "adventures" within the editor would be appreciated on this thread.

Re: SC2 Editor
Well I wanted to check out the heroes so I added all the dependencies and dropped each hero unit into a map to play around with. Blizz appears to have crafted a separate unit for each appearance of a character. There's three Raynors, two Tychuses, two Kerrigans, and so on. Doubly interesting Kerrigan and another character (*CENSORED FOR SPOILERS*) both had fully functional voice sets...
I'm already squirming in anticipation as it is said that the shooter minigame you can play was built entirely in the editor so it should let us do some pretty powerful stuff but at the same time the learning curve for making basic edits doesn't seem as high as Warcraft III's WorldEditor (which, truth be told, I never really got the hang of)
The interface is also reminiscent of StarEdit (at least to me) though I wonder how programmer savvy you'd have to be to really turn out some good stuff with it. It'll also be interesting to see how people with customs end up doing dependencies and whether or not we'll be able to share them amongst each other for custom units and the like. I remember way back in the day when StarDraft first came out I used to mess with the editor for War of the Tribes as it would let me place some of Sorrel's custom units and check out Joel Steudler's portraits. Good times.

Re: SC2 Editor
I wouldnt compare it with the orininal SC editor and that was really basic and worked for one thing.
However comparing it with, War3 editor and Clearly it is no where near as user Friendly or Effcient Im guessing it was suppose to be better (but serious Data Link Issues Causing multiple Crashes Im sure im not the only one having this problem!) Simply Creating a Custom unit is a mountain of a task witch i seemed to have try over and over agian. Only seems to work With Duplicate and with melee Dependentcies on. hopefully it recives some kinda update by blizzard to make it more user friendly Like war3editor. as only supernerds and programers are able to make maps that work. If they dont change then we will be limited to the lame maps already online Atm a few good TDs and Limited Verity. Im only saying that a good Editor would be esayier to use for noob and pro map makers alike. Editor is a Powerful Tool but has a very Limited Use. If they did use this same editor for the campain NO wonder it took em 4 years to make it. Possible they are holding out on us to make us pay for the good maps xD.
Dont mean to bitch but ya know im right

Re: SC2 Editor
It took me two weeks to create a 15 minute voiced mission for LotC (which included the learning curve for the triggers). The trigger editor can do absolutely anything you want it to do without programming for 99% of anything you can think of. All that's left is mod support.

Re: SC2 Editor
OMG WHO ARE ALL THESE GUYS
- The light/water editing features
What do I dislike?
- Everything else.
The editor is a goddamn disaster. You couldn't make it any less efficient and disorganized if you tried, and with something this complex and in-depth the interface and layout means everything.

Re: SC2 Editor
How do you even play the maps you make? I can't find them in-game anywhere....

Re: SC2 Editor
The only possible way to play a map you make is by clicking the "Test Map" button on the top right of the map editor. Either that, or you have to upload it to battle net.
Yes, it is retarded.

Oh cool, so when I go back to my house, where I have no internet, I can't play my maps besides testing? Blizzard is going for gold.

That is correct, good sir. Hope you didn't want to play any melee against AIs on your own maps.

Re: SC2 Editor
Kind of exactly what I wanted, :[. Is it possible to make campaigns then? This is absurd.

The post does include some test maps as attachments.

Re: SC2 Editor
I think this post from TL can apply to your troubles.I totally forgot the basic main fundamental of playing starcraft competitively, trusting your build, and staying on the narrow path to your end game destination.
So if you find yourself getting frustrated with losing, get the build down, see how you can make it faster, flexible, and fit your style.
Make it like a story, a story you tell every damn day, it has the same beginning middle and end, but what happens in between is strictly up to you. Goldilocks, could set fire on the walls, drink herself into to oblivion, and or have a nervous breakdown, in a single telling of Goldilocks and the three bears....
But at the end of the day the bitch is gonna :
Walk into a house thats obviously not hers.
Eat all the damn porridge.
And fall asleep in a family of bears house, and get eaten.
I don't even know if thats half way right. But you guys get the picture.
Basically, you need bitches and bears.
