PlayStation 3 Sorrow

Post by Legion »

So yesterday, my PS3 (previous model) wouldn't work properly. There'd be snow on my tv and the words "no signal" but my PS was running. After resetting the mother about a dozen times, it gives me a menu with 6 options, starting with "Restart System". I try 5 options which don't do ANYTHING except take me back to my snow screen. Occassionally, it would stop to say "Unable to access hard disk" or something, but there'd be snow after that.

So option 6, the dreaded format option, is the only one left. Actually, I think it's technically option number 5, but it's the last one I tried because I'd lose all my saves. So, being the idiot that I am, I'm half expecting this option to not do anything either, so I can pick up the phone and call up Sony to tell them what junk they sold me. Guess what -- it works. Fucking machine starts up fine, has me reset date & time and all that bull... and all my saves are gone.

Gone.

Now, I'm not usually emotionally attached to this kind of thing, but man. All my cool Fallout 3 moments. My Assassin's Creed 2 upgrades. My Orange Box chapters. My Far Cry 2 moments. My God of War 3 Cronos Battle that I was working on... My Killzone 2 final battle. My inFamous end boss fight. ALL OF 'EM GONE! The only things left are my trophies which are apparently stored online, but what good are those, anyway?

I know it's my fault, but come on, PlayStations aren't supposed to just do this without warning, are they? I don't want to sound like a baby, but I don't deserve this. I only play games on it. There wasn't any music, just a couple of movies, I NEVER go online (so I'm a recluse... what's it to you?!), I only buy & download official things off of those game industry big shots. I turn the PS3 off like I'm supposed to. I'm a slave to the system, and now I'm getting screwed for it!

*sob* It's too late for me, but the lesson here, kids, is FINISH your fucking games or store your savegames elsewhere! Do not trust your main source of entertainment any longer.

It's a good thing I keep all my playstation (both 1 & 2) saves on memory cards, then.

I don't even have a PS3.....yet.

Yeah, I used to do that with PS2 saves. Then PS3 said, "I don't have memory cards, cos I have my OWN memory."

Bastard. Of course I could have used external memory drives, but you don't really expect this from a 40 gig machine that runs nothing else but a couple of games.

Edit:

By the way, and this is off-topic, but if you're still investing in PS2, go get the game Onimusha 3: Demon Siege. You won't regret it. I miss it every single day...

Okay, back to my whining!

Out of curiosity, which games (out of Legion's games or popular games) would have protected saves?

Its the journey, not the destination, which is important.  Although shelling out money (if you had to) to fix your H/D sucks.

Odd, I could understand protected saves that would be multiplayer saves of some sort but singleplayer saves? It seems some kind of overprotection (like if hacking the save would change that much).

My fault I didn't back up my saves, I guess.

Of course I could replay all those games up to the point where I was, but that's no fun now. It'll take months before that's any fun.

Ah feck it. Alright, God of War 3, I'm gonna kick your ass all over again!

One time, when I was playing Okami, I nearly beat the game, but I hadn't been saving it.  So it's the first week of school, and I come back to my room, and one of my roommates is watching a DVD.  I'm like "oh word we got a dvd player?"

...

I never forgave him after that.
