Re: Patch 3
No, I meant a universe was built upon a game, and was transferred to another game albeit a different genre. It's still a "gamer" world and all the important changes are made between or during the life of the game itself ie expansions. But with novels and other crap, it expands outside, and in Blizzard's case, the novels are nowhere near as "big" of a medium/channel in terms of consumer base than their original, which is the game.RazorclawX wrote:You mean how like the Draenei were butt-ugly midgets with a lot of teeth in Warcraft 3 and for all of the pre-Burning Crusade until the space goat paladins came around?Xelxiuz wrote: WoW is an MMORPG, and the Warcraft series are games. There is nothing wrong with the transition because it's still the same medium, just a different genre. As for the Draenei, that retcon or whatever you want to call it is even less of a change in the boundary, because it was introduced after WoW came into play. It's still within the "original boundaries", because the sand box was transferred from WC3/TFT to WoW.
No one really had a problem with Draenei joining the Alliance until they found out about the space goat paladins, which completely contradicted how they were depicted already.
I'm not disputing the content itself, good or bad etc etc, because I could care less. If they say, never mentioned the space/alien part in the MMO game, yet constantly explored upon it in novels, and affected a future expansion, then this would be the case. But I don't believe it was, because before TBC came out, nothing actually hinted at stuff like "I USE TO LIVE ON THE USS GOAT ENTERPRISE".
