or you could take The Oracle path and abuse the copyright of Metallica instead of abusing the copyright of video games [imgwh 31x28]http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b60/j ... s/rock.gif[/imgwh]

It should definitely be part of the creative process.

I don't always go obscure, but I try and avoid anything that anyone else might use.

I think most of everyone here stuck to obscure stuff.  I personally used Escaflowne soundtracks for a lot of my unfinished levels.

I've been using a lot of asian folk and eastern folk in general lately, but there's plenty of old and obscure anime/japanese soundtracks that are really, really awesome and I'm sure no one here knows about except for the most hardcore of soundtrack hunters.

Plus there's plenty of games out there with awesome music that totally get overlooked, like Lair, Enclave, Summoner, God of War, ect.

I used a lot of trailer music in my WoW videos like everyone else but I try to avoid using that stuff unless I can't find anything more suitable.

But all of my projects are totally private now anyways so it's not like it matters if I use that music or not.

I don't necessarily use obscure music just because it's obscure - I use some Juno Reactor, for example - I just try to stay away from super mainstream stuff like final fantasy and chrono trigger and stick to the cream and crop of my collection. Plus, most of the mainstream stuff sounds way too generic for my tastes.

That said there is some awesome final fantasy live recordings and stuff like that, that I've never seen used anywhere and would make for great music in a project.

/e

For example I just found an arrange version of one of the battle tracks from FF mystic quest.

Hear, hear!

I have quite the collection over the years that I'm willing to share with the community.
I have seen the Desler.  I have tasted of his milk and honey.
