Re: StarCraft II Official! (Pictures)
so they took the old dragoons and made walking death tanks, and since they cant make dragoons anymore, that spot in their forces has been taken by the stalker. I dont see the problem. Dragoons arent robots, theyre protoss on life support and theyre a dying race, why would you keep them away from combat when the only reason they exist is to kill shit?
Now with 50% more lol, 50% more win, and 100% phlail.

Actually aren't the dark stalkers the anti-air ground support? And the Immortals are anti-heavy weapon? I might have my info wrong though.WB wrote: so they took the old dragoons and made walking death tanks, and since they cant make dragoons anymore, that spot in their forces has been taken by the stalker. Edit:Wait, Um, it is a little different because I could ask the samurai to teach me his trade... If immortals are 'special' protoss it's slightly different... because unless Auir is reclaimed.. there won't be another one 're'madethebrowncloud wrote: That's not necessarily true. The dragoons weren't weapons, they were warriors. Think about it like the abandonment of bushido in Japan. After a while, people stopped following bushido because times were changing. They didn't give the people that were still samurai special treatment. They just did what they do and times continued to change.

Now I am feeling confused, but I think I agree more with thebrowncloud... I guess sometimes I don't think straight, but also since the Immortals are actually Warriors on life support, then it's their decision to head into battle or not... Knowing the Protoss, they probably want to protect their dying race. Oh wait...The colossus is unusual for the fact that it was created purely as a war machine. Most protoss robots are created for industrial or resource-gathering purposes. Even the much-feared reaver is at its core a mobile manufacturing unit re-tasked to the creation of scarab drones for long-range bombardment.
Yeah, I had a bad headache when I read that.... no seriously, it only went away after 30 minutes of waiting to fall asleepBut the loss of every immortal is keenly felt. These ancient warriors are a dying breed pledged to give their all in the end times of their people. They stand on the front lines of the final war, sacrificing themselves to buy their race a few more days or hours. Soon none will remain.

An important piece of protoss culture to remember is that protoss embrace death warmly. They go in these machines so that they can fight longer and die in battle, not so they can live. If a templar were given the choice of living yet never fighting again or dying of their wounds, they would gladly choose the latter. For them, to live is to fight another day, not to enjoy peace and prosperity. Taldarin (from the Resurrection IV mission) is at least 1000 years old and he still chooses to fight. The equipment that they use to fight is NOT more sacred than a warrior's death.

In the end, let's face, ain't it a bit Klingon inspired?thebrowncloud wrote: An important piece of protoss culture to remember is that protoss embrace death warmly. Quite right. But then one could say that the Klingons were inspired by feudal Japan.Falchion wrote:In the end, let's face, ain't it a bit Klingon inspired? ;Dthebrowncloud wrote: An important piece of protoss culture to remember is that protoss embrace death warmly. Guys, it's okay. I'm pretty sure that when an Immortal dies, you can just click on the little icon, then wait a little while, and a new one will pop out of the factory. They'll never completely die out so long as you keep doing that. So, you know, preserve the Immortals. Build more.

I heard that icon broke during production and the outlook for fixing it in time for release is grim. We're either looking at another delay or having a limited supply of immortals to go around, sir.Mr. wrote: Guys, it's okay. Taldarin is a fraud.thebrowncloud wrote: An important piece of protoss culture to remember is that protoss embrace death warmly. But you're right about protoss being fighters, although they like to study ancient teachings and other ancient stuff. To my understanding, there are also protoss scientists conducting experiments far far away from Aiur.
Way I see it, apart from the obvious references to Klingons in the protoss unit responses, the protoss were made to be a tribute to these Star Trek warriors. The way they deeply love their homeworld, how they treat combat as an art and how they see death as a sort of reward.
Feudal Japan's got nothing on them badass Klingons.

Actually I think Dragoons are just a rip of Dreadnaughts from wh40k, as starcraft is basically blizzard's version of warhammer.

Not to mention Wraithguards, only difference being souls instead of bodies.IskatuMesk wrote: Actually I think Dragoons are just a rip of Dreadnaughts from wh40k, as starcraft is basically blizzard's version of warhammer.
