Browder: "So, yeah, StarCraft 2, right?
The guy who starts talking at around 0:53, is that Bruno?

Anyway, really cool interview this one. Shame I've only just discovered this post.

Lol, who knew Bruno was an SC fan?

Anyway, on that very same question that Bruno posed, I really miss that feature from the early builds of SC2 where you could ask people questions, etc. on the Hyperion. Browder can believe what he wants, but those mini dialogues humanize the characters and makes them sound like regular people. Taking those out was a mistake. To hell with those people who see it as a moment to skip through content!

EDIT: No Alexei Stukov!?!?!?!?!?!? NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Remember Diablo 1, where you could talk with all the people in town? Most of the time it was just flavor, but it set the mood.

Yeah, and I totally would have loved to have seen that in SC2. Hopefully what they still have in it will be able to adequately set the mood, but it would have made the whole scene look a lot more natural if there was more than just the linear scripts.

Don't get me started. Diablo 1 is my all-time favorite game. About half of the dialogue was unnecessary in terms of gameplay, but it rocked. Diablo 2 ruined that for me. I've been playing Fallout 3 way too much lately, but one of the reasons I can't let go of it is because it reminds me of that Diablo atmosphere.

Also, for me, Starcraft's "mood" was set by the first few terran missions and the protoss campaign. I didn't "get" the zerg until much later, when I saw the greater picture. Of course, then came Brood War and suddenly the tables turned and simple, dystopian sci-fi gave way to intricate plotlines and character (over-)development. I've seen some Starcraft 2 footage (not all, but some) and some of these planets really look like they could bring back that old vibe of Starcraft. Some of the terran textures really appeal to me, so I'm hoping for a bit more.. yeah.. flavor.

I know what you mean. I think the dialogue they still have lined up for the game will give us a good sense of flavor and character development, but sometimes I just want to hear the characters talk about nothing. It makes them seem so much more real and human that way. I didn't play Fallout, but I got that sense from playing Oblivion. Talk with the people from the Shivering Isles was especially entertaining because of all the crazy little querks that each character had. Lots of individuality with that one.

Yeah, I don't see why they removed that. I like little details like that... I liked scanning every little thing in the Metroid Prime series after all.

But if they let you talk to characters in the Terran campaign, wouldn't they be expected to do that with the other campaigns? What would Zerg talk about?
