StarCraft - Solace of the Fallen (working title)
Story centers mainly on three Dark Templar (two of them have a master/student connection) hired to fight the Zerg on Aiur before and after the fall of the Overmind.
The story and other lore segments will be revealed as it progresses.
Screenshots from mission 1. I hope you like them. Hell, that mission took me some time to make...
Fight your way through the cannon and reach the Zerg base. Would you be able to do it before you get overwhelmed?

And before you ask, no, I haven't forgot my previous campaigns of Enslavers TDE and Yells of Freedom. They'll be finished in time (it doesn't means I've stopped work on them!)

Re: StarCraft - Solace of the Fallen
There is a simple, acceptable answer to this question (from what I could think of) but who did that infested command center previously belong to before it was infested? My thoughts went to Raynor's Raiders, but it would depend on what part of Aiur this campaign takes place, specifically. As far as I know, zerg buildings don't warp travel, but infested command centers might be an exception because of their ability to lift off.
Sorry! I'm kinda anal about fan fiction when it comes to the lore.... I'm not trying to poke holes in your campaign on purpose!

Ah, yes. I read his description too fast and somehow thought it was during the invasion. If the campaign goes that far after, then that is certainly possible. Or even one of Raynor's command centers at that battle, for that matter. Well played, sir!Laconius wrote:Well, depending on the timeline, the infested CC's could also have originated from the UED's contigent when they went to arrest Mengsk on Aiur.thebrowncloud wrote: There is a simple, acceptable answer to this question (from what I could think of) but who did that infested command center previously belong to before it was infested? The UED thing is a good idea, but this map takes place 2 days before the death of the first Overmind, so no.thebrowncloud wrote:Ah, yes. And for the CC thing, it's kinda easy. The CC could belong to the Confederacy (the Zerg infested many Confederates worlds, including Tarsonis itself), to the Raynor's Raiders or the Dominion (during their incursion on Char). Also, who says that the only planets the Zerg infested belonged to the Confederracy, the Dominion or the Raynor's Raiders. There could be many other lesser factions that were infested and comsumed/destroyed on another planets during the Zerg initial invasion too small for their disappearance to be noticed.
Frankly, I care little about it. It's not important for me who did the Command Centers on the map (there're three) belonged to. The important thing is WHY are they there. I added them because the Zerg intended to use the Terrans against a weapon against the Protoss (kinda weird they didn't used them on Blizzard official campaigns, though :p).
Anyways, I hope you liked the map.

Here you are! A little video I made about the maop. And about that 'Demo' thing, fuck it. I noticed that once I had already finished to convert the video to avi... Anyways, it can still be reviewed.
Enjoy, for it's only a small part of what awaits you in the map (it's mostly dialogues, though. However, I've added a bit from the ensuing battle for your pleasure
)

I've to note that the gameplay don't resembles any of the other projects's gameplay I worked on before.

Ah, so you're going with warp traveling ICCs? Never really thought about an idea like that until now (not that this is really that big of a deal.) Regardless, I will be looking forward to your campaign!

Or just the Zerg infested the Terran factions that were already on the planet (at this point, both Dominion and Shezar's Scavengers were fighting each other on the surface. The Raynor's Raiders were also there).thebrowncloud wrote: Ah, so you're going with warp traveling ICCs? Anyways, did you saw the video?

Ah, yes. I forgot about them. The time of occurence for the Ensalvers campaigns was always rather ambiguous. Not that that's a bad thing. I'm sure you could make it work.
I downloaded it and tried to watch it in WMP, but it had didn't work right. Only the audio plays... I'm not that good with these things, sorry....
What am I doing wrong?

Re: StarCraft - Solace of the Fallen
That appears to be the problem. The computer I'm using right now is ancient and extraordinarily slow, so I don't wanna deal with downloading anything on it; it would take forever. You're likely missing a video codec. You would have to download and install it seperately for the video to play.

I don't have access to my other computer right now, which is much faster and newer, so youtube seems like a good idea for now. Thanks, omega20!

Re: StarCraft - Solace of the Fallen
The never ending problem of the codecs. I become tired of them. I'll upload it on youtube anyways, for the people who don't want to bother downloading it of for those who can't see the video on their computers.
EDIT: Seems like I'm having some issues to upload the video on youtube right now. I'll upload it as soon as I can and I'm able.

Laconius gladly adviced me to remove all my posts of this long debate. I advice to any other member who participated in this debated to do it so, too. As for now, all my posts regarding the "great debated" are removed.Laconius wrote: Omega> Due to your thread becoming saturated with off-topic material, I've removed my posts following this one since you've formally acknowledged my complaints. I've contacted some of the other individuals involved in the "great debate" about removing their posts as well, so I'd suggest that you do the same so that this promising thread can get back on its feet.![]()
Cheers!

Re: StarCraft - Solace of the Fallen
Using the same editors to create levels obviously makes them look the same. Seriously, don't all Starcraft maps look the same, really? However, Laconius did some amazing stuff to break a collective habit and managed to give players a unique experience like Oracle, Meta and Desler did and still do (and many more, but I just named the big names to illustrate my point). Part of that was due to his extended terrain and color scheme. Nothing nobody else couldn't have done, as Scmdraft provides everybody with the ability to change the text interface in Starcraft and modify terrain, but I think when you're creating a protoss campaign and you're using the same kind of sound effects he used in VE, you shouldn't come up with the same text coloring/formatting and extended terrain despite it being just another feature in Scmdraft. Also, in the video, I read something about escorting a caravan. I realize that Laconius is not the inventor of the term/concept 'caravan' or the mission objective 'escort', but I couldn't help thinking that was more than a tribute to something you obviously (and rightfully) admire.
With the multitude of Starcraft campaigns out there, it's hard to do something nobody else has done before (like Oracle also said in his contest campaign thread), but still anyone can tell the difference between two people coincidentally coming up with a similar idea and someone getting a little too inspired by someone else's work.
No crime, but it's obviously taken Laconius a long time and hard work to get to this point, and I imagine it's frustrating to see someone else doing something similar less than a week after showing his work to the world. I suggest you rehash it if you want to complete this work and give credit where it's due. VE seems to be one of your greatest inspirations so far.
Edit:
Laconius doesn't have to be afraid of losing points or anything, HA-fucking-HA! If anything, he should get extra for setting a standard for aspiring campaigncreators only a couple of days after release of his campaign!
