The former half of the video is way too overdone with after effects filtering. It's too shiny and looks really fake. Compare it to the original sc videos or even the sc2 stuff and you should notice it.

But then again I deal with a lot of video editing and this sticks out like a sore thumb to me. Maybe not so much you :P

I thought the Tassadar sounded close enough without actually having access to the original voice actor.  I don't like to be especially critical of fan works, and as fan works go, this one was obviously a big investment in time and effort.  Tassadar had one line, so not sure how his line was 'out of character', just seems petty to say something like that.  He doesn't have to make a reference to Adun or the Khala every time he speaks.  Maybe you are referring to the legend/legacy line, but I got a feeling that was narration, not him actually saying that.

I like to be critical of anything. You don't get anywhere if all everyone says is OMG SO AMAZING. I'm not going to be a nice guy just because it's "fan work". No one offers me that sentiment and I don't offer it in return.

I was referring to the last lines, narration or not they just sounded weird and out of place.

Basically, you're telling me that ignorance is bliss.  So be it, then.  I'd rather enjoy things I have no particular knowledge of, then have a portion of knowledge and not being able to enjoy a lot of things. :p ;)

You make it sound as if this is the most horrible fan work you've ever seen, plus you're mocking our responses by deeming them 'sentiments because it's fanwork'.  I think anything that looks amazing deserves an OMG SO AMAZING response. If you don't like it, that's perfectly fine, but calling something "overdone" when I have never seen a fanmovie like this... I think it deserves more than that. That's all I'm saying. :D

Nah. I know the guy somewhat and I just know he's capable of a lot more than this. It's a decent video but not even close to "The best sc fan video hands down". I think it lacks direction and any real purpose to it.

@Legion: Just for the record I said there is a lot of after effects, I never said that was a bad thing. :) I like it.

Ultimately, the final presentation had a 'complete' appeal.  It didn't seem like any aspect of this video was rushed, nor did it seem like any aspect was only given half a bit of attention because the author wasn't particularly experienced enough to complete a part of it.  If the author was inexperienced in areas, he certainly did his best to disguise his weaknesses and play off his strengths - if that means lots of After Effects editing, then that's a good approach.  Use your talents to your advantage.  You can certainly try to overcome your weaknesses, but if its a final presentation meant to display your best, then only use your best material.

I should correct myself, there was one aspect that seem half baked.  The whole 'StarCraft Legacy' affiliation didn't seem like part of the original plan.  It lost some of its polish by acknowledging the affiliation, especially with a voiced line saying SCL's tagline.  I certainly understand the reason for the affiliation, its no different then people making campaigns for this site - for mutual benefit.  I think making it more subtle though would have been the way to go.  If this had been a promotional video for SCL, that would be different, but it attempted to add to the SC story while at the same time trying to acknowledge an affiliation.  Not the best decision, but given the overall shine and polish of everything else, definitely forgivable.

Lets think about this.
Some people are going OMG SO AMAZING.
Others are going OMG THAT COULD BE BETTER.
That is great! The guy who made it needs support, but he also needs some dispassionate critics to tell him where he went wrong. That way he may do the next one better.

It was great.  If it wasn't "necessarily the best hands down" then I'd like to see what is.

Yeah, the last line was pretty horrible. I thought it was interesting though, for a fan trailer.

I wrote a story about first contact between the two races once.

It was a piece of crap.

Lots of korean tournaments have CGI bits done for them that are of considerable quality.

As for a good fan video, this one is rated pretty high in my standards. It has a few snippets of the above CGI and is very well put together, although the context is different.

What? Really? The CGI? It was so "after effects" I couldn't even distinguish what was going on.

I must live in crazy town if you guys liked that video more.
