Re: Battle Report 3 Leaked. (Not a joke)
This Battle Report was very exciting to watch. It had non-stop action. The Protoss player did a great job micromanaging, although I was annoyed he didn't research Observers to detect any of those burrowed zerg units. I still think the Colossus suck, especially since Infestors can mind control even mechanical units now.
From what I saw, does it seem like the Zerg can build one queen per hatchery? Can Void Rays only attack air now with the Phoenix using the Gravita beam to lift up the queen to be attacked?

I have seen the Desler. I have tasted of his milk and honey.

Ya I think they are gunna have to nerf that spell to not mind control mechanical units, that would be a good way to balance it.AA7Dragoon wrote: This Battle Report was very exciting to watch. Good fight. I wanted the Protoss player to win.
But... wait... Zerg can mind control units? When did they get Dark Archons

I think the Void Ray can still attack ground, but the Protoss used the graviton to immobilize the queen.AA7Dragoon wrote: From what I saw, does it seem like the Zerg can build one queen per hatchery? Dustin said "what a great move" only once this game. I am sad.

Yeah, Mind Control is going to need to be balanced, even if the effect is temporary. You shouldn't be able to do that to mechanical units.
Has anyone else noticed how most of the games we've seen in battle reports and beta hardly use air units? Do you think the intense lower tier micromanagement is affecting this?

Well, air is never really a big option for most games in Brood War unless you're talking about BGH where you have the time and economy to mass. I've only seen Wraiths used once effectively in a Python game and Corsairs used a few times in a PvZ DT/Sair strat.

It's partly because the players are bad. You can see them floating tons of resources in this yet again.AA7Dragoon wrote: Yeah, Mind Control is going to need to be balanced, even if the effect is temporary. You shouldn't be able to do that to mechanical units.

I didn't really like this battlereport. There was very little macro gameplay again, and I don't like the mind control, either. The Immortal also sometimes didn't make explosion effects when shooting the rocks.
Of course this is obviously an old build, though, what with the old spawning pool and stuff they replaced ages ago.

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to mind control mechanical units. Maybe it could be balanced by giving it a shorter duration on larger units?

ZvT 3 hatch mutalisk is almost always used on Python. ZvP 3 hatch mutalisk has fallen out of fashion due to the Bisu build which is designed to counter the former. TvZ double starport wraith is used on occasion. PvZ the corsair is omnipresent, whether they make just one to scout and hunt overlords or if they make several.DrumsofWar wrote: Well, air is never really a big option for most games in Brood War unless you're talking about BGH where you have the time and economy to mass. Basically, at least a modicum of air tends to get used in matchups that involve Zerg. But yeah, no one ever masses air unless it's BGH. Still a stupid idea in my opinion. It's only a matter of time before some fagtoss comes out of nowhere with an arbiter and cuts your fleet in half.
I agree that the neural parasite thing shouldn't work on the Colossus. From a lore standpoint, the Colossus is purely a robotic unit, meaning it has no nervous system, so it makes no sense that they can be affected. From a balance standpoint, Protoss/Terran's most powerful units are generally mechanical, so they ought to be exempt from the parasite lest the Infestors become a little overpowering. Then again, there needs to be an incentive to use them in the first place. I think they should still work on units like Immortals and Stalkers.

Mind control just isn't FLAVORFUL as a Zerg ability. That's a Protoss ability. Infestation, yeah. But then it should be called infestation. Why would Zerg mind control something, ie., just bring it over as is? If Zerg were to take something, they'd make it Zergish.

I like how I'm pretty sure the ability is called Infest, yet they kept saying "mind control" as that's exactly what it does.mAc Chaos wrote: Mind control just isn't FLAVORFUL as a Zerg ability. I like the smoke-spewing dome and grinder doodads. It's too bad the smoke vent doodads have the standard "an unwatched particle emitter never smokes" problem, though. They could improve it by instantly creating a column of smoke particles as soon as it comes on screen.
