Is there any way to give the Hunter Killer as a spellcaster the abilities "Spawn Broodling" and/or "Ensnare"?
You'll have to use Firegraft or another grafting program for that. I would suggest Firegraft, since it's the newest. However, the current version of Firegraft does not support StarCraft v1.52, so you'll have to use a downgrader to downgrade to v1.51.
(I have pictures, but when I tried to post then with this, it gave me an error, so you'll have to make do without it unless someone tells me how to put then up)
There are two things you need to do:
A. Change Use Tech requirements.
1. Run Firegraft and click the 'New' option in the 'File' menu.
2. Click the 'Dat Requirements' tab, then the 'Use Tech' tab.
3. Select the special ability you want on the left list, then select '==End of List ==' in the middle list.
4. Add 3 new items to the list by right clicking on '==End of List ==' and clicking 'Add Item' on the context menu that comes up (do this step three times).
5. Select the first item and change it to 'Or' using the pop-down bar below.
6. Change the second item to 'Current unit is...' in the same way.
7. Change the third item from an Opcode to a Parameter using the selecting dots to the left of the pop-down bar. Then change it to 'Hunter Killer (Hydralisk)' using the pop-down bar.
(note: it is imperative that the 3 new items are in this order: Or, Current unit is..., Hunter Killer (Hydralisk))
B. Add the New Buttons
1. Click the 'Button Sets' tab.
2. Right click on the left list, and click 'Add Entry'.
3. On the new window that comes up, put the set name to 'Hunter Killer', change the selection dot to Existing Set, and put the set to 'Basic Burrower' on the pop-down bar. Click OK once you are finished.
4. Select 'Queen + Heroes' in the left list, select the ability you want, then right click on it and click 'Copy'.
5. Select 'Hunter Killer' on the left list, then double-click in a black empty square in the 'Button Preview' box.
6. Select the new item -- it should be labled 'Blank (Goliath Turret)' -- in the 'Command List'. Right click on it, and click 'Paste' on the context menu that comes up.
Once you are finished with both parts, 'save' it as a 'Self Executing Patch (*.exe)' with whatever name you want.
Note: If you are giving these abilities to a non-zerg unit, you must also change the 'Research Tech' to a building of that race and also the button set of that building to include the ability to research the new abilities.
