Help with running exe files

Post by lost_box »

I can't get downloaded exe applications (the files with the gear wheel as the icon) to run on my laptop which runs on windows vista. Everytime I try to run an exe I get a "StarCraft has stopped working" error. I've tried running bcdedit.exe in the command console as suggested in the help thread here to disable the DEP but keep getting this:

C:\Users\"Name">bcdedit.exe
The boot configuration data store could not be opended.
Access is denied.

I've also tried manually going into my DEP settings and disabiling it for my exe files but that doesn't seem to do anything.

I downloaded stardraft and tried running them through it but I still get the error.

I found that manually placing the files (portrait, glue, etc) into my starcraft directory works and I can run starcraft with the mods, but the problem is most downloadable campaigns with custom files come in an executable application form, not as a group of movable files.

If anyone knows either how to solve my DEP problem, or a way to decomplie the exe files back into seperate files please tell me how.

Have you tried this post:
http://www.campaigncreations.org/forum/index.php?topic=1179.0

In addition have you made sure you are running them as Administrator?

Thanks, I got them running now. I had read that thread earlier but I took a second look at that administrator issue, I think it would be helpful to mention in the thread that you do NOT run as admin if you just open the command prompt by clicking on it, you have to right click on command prompt and select "run as administrator". I always assumed before that you were running it as administrator as long as you were set as admin in your user settings.
