I think the violence in the gang ambush scene was very exagerated, but in the comic...
Spoiler
the cataclysmic event in the end is much more violent and features plenty of gore, and I liked its portrayal better there since it reinforced the nature of Ozymandias' actions. Also, the lack of the Hiroshima references and the Tales of the Black Freighter story really made a difference, considering how it developed Ozymandias' background and even hinted that his plan didn't work at all in the end. Also, Bubastis was meaningless in the movie.
Ride of the Valkyries and hallelujah were sooooo cheesy, they sounded almost like comic (no pun intended) relief. ¬¬

It wasn't way overdone with Nite Owl... when they were fighting in the alley, he broke some guy's arm and you could see the bone break out of it.  It spent like ten seconds on the slo-mo of that. :P

Tells of the Black Freighter (complete) will be featured on the DVD edition, so I have been informed by my movie-buff friend.

That's confirmed in an article on IGN, FYI. I read the premise and it's absolutely horrific. It's one hell of a metaphor.

I thought the violence was too drawn, emphasizing on that rather than  the story.

1)
In the motion comic, the comedian is killed in a flashback as two cops are investigating the crime,  we are told about the Logan actrather than a  long fight scene and a 3 minute montage.

2)
Without the black freighter story you dont get the full impact

Without female voices the animated comic is terrible.
