I'm going to assume Ricky is using the same version.

Re: SC Recording software
I haven't changed anything.
But I'm curious if the new version of fraps will solve the issue.
/edit
Nope. Fraps still renders the game unplayable with about a frame every 3-4 seconds.

Re: SC Recording software
version 2.9.5 and beyond of fraps fixes the slowdown bug (snes9x, peggle deluxe are two very annoying examples) and makes it capable of recording much more things (it can record vista's minesweeper lol). Thats what you need to get.

Re: SC Recording software
Sorry Mesk, but I honestly believe you changed something in terms of graphics on your computer somehow. Multiple programs don't suddenly crap out like there unless there is something linking them that goes wrong.
About the only other possibility if there is nothing changed is your video card took a big dive in terms of general performance.

Re: SC Recording software
It's more than likely what he said previously, I have a Core2 Duo @ 3.6 and he has an Athlon 64 6000+ X2 because the only other thing thats going to make it lag up like that is HDD access and we also have the same drives and he can record everything else fine.

Re: SC Recording software
I have an idea. Set one CPU to work with fraps and the other with SC, use CPU affinity. It is worth a try at least.

Re: SC Recording software
Already tried that.
I also reverted a memory-related thing in the boot.ini hks had me do not so long ago, and no change.
Recording applications do not use any video power at all.

Re: SC Recording software
Have you tried recording SC with those tools on a friends computer? If it works there, it is your computer.

Re: SC Recording software
Here's my FRAPS test on my Phenom X4 of BW :
http://hosted.samods.org/replays/RHvideos/BW_CrappyTest.avi
Do note that as usual UMS replays breaks when replaying them at speed higher than highest x1. Otherwise, seems fraps had a bit of trouble to keep audio in sync later (perphas due to x16 speed later on) on but seems fine otherwise.

Maglok> I know it's my computer because these tools work for other people. They're very common tools. I just don't know why it's my computer. I reverted the only (seemingly) major change I had done in a very long time to try to fix it and it didn't change anything.

Re: SC Recording software
Strange, in the past I was able to record Starcraft with Fraps without any sort of lag with my outdated PC.
Pentium 4 and Radeon X800 XT, so the problem definitely doesn't lie in your hardware.

Re: SC Recording software
That statement is not correct. The cause is actually likely in the hardware or a combination of the drivers of the hardware and the hardware itself. Tools like fraps and stuff are very specific when it comes to hardware. Just cause some computer is slower does not mean it is not about the hardware.

Re: SC Recording software
Actually, I'll bet that's due to FRAPS cutting off the video file it's writing to after 4 gigabytes and starting a new one.Ricky_Honejasi wrote: Otherwise, seems fraps had a bit of trouble to keep audio in sync later (perphas due to x16 speed later on) on but seems fine otherwise.

Re: SC Recording software
I fear it's not the case this time ... original uncompressed was a lone 2.5 gig file.Mucky wrote:Actually, I'll bet that's due to FRAPS cutting off the video file it's writing to after 4 gigabytes and starting a new one.Ricky_Honejasi wrote: Otherwise, seems fraps had a bit of trouble to keep audio in sync later (perphas due to x16 speed later on) on but seems fine otherwise.
