Re: Watchmen
I've never read the comic but I heard everything about it constantly it from friends who have read it.
I know what the ending was in the comic and I honestly think it is a lot better in the movie.

Re: Watchmen
In some ways, because in the book, the attack only took place in New York whereas here, it's rewritten on an international scale. The cover for the attack in the book was better though, because it was as the famous quote goes, a bigger lie to swallow and thusly, more believable by the world.
For the rest of the story, I'd say the book was much better. Like one reveiwer noted, the scene where Dr. Manhattan finally has a change of heart wasn't as gripping as it was originally written. I know they had to cut it down for time but that speech he gives is what turns the entire plot into something more hopeful, even without Veidt - who came across as a little unintellectual here.

Re: Watchmen
Agreed- I believe the scene of Veidt asking Dr. Manhattan if what he did was a wise decision was crucial to the overall comic itself. The only resemblance to that was a short lecture from the Night Owl before they left the scene.
Overall it was a very strong and good movie, but I believe the "bigger lie" in the comic would of been much more pleasing and much more believable to the world. I also never did understand why, in the comic, they had to change the identities in the end.
The missing characters were all cameo'd well, I just wish I could of seen their stories as well. Perhaps when movies require a feature length of six hours (you know it'll happen), it would be a proper time to do a replica of the comic. For this day and age, this movie sufficed, none-the-less.

They were still wanted by the law in their original identities and they wanted nothing to do with the one person who had the power to clear their names - Veidt.Lavarinth wrote: Agreed- I believe the scene of Veidt asking Dr. Manhattan if what he did was a wise decision was crucial to the overall comic itself. Re: Watchmen
Ah, true that. Would make sense.
Also- I thought Rors' portrayal by the actor was very well done, just wish they didn't cut out his childhood and put it more as a "if you know the comic, you know this scene" in the intro song scenes.

Whoever made that video blows when it comes to understanding text legibility. White text over near-white surfaces is just... bad. Ever heard of a black outline? =o\

Re: Watchmen
Loved the movie. I don't think it's better than Dark Knight but it was absolutely awesome and came close. I thought Watchmen would really analyse superheroes, at least based on the trailer with Rosarch's speech ("And we'll whisper... no.") but it was still fascinating in showing what can happen to heroes under the threat of nuclear armageddon.
*Minor spoilers*
Other misc. comments: the violence was likely authentic to the comic, as were many other things like Rosarch's character (Who'd win - him or Marv?). I think we were lead to guess the rest of his childhood based on the scene with his mum and then the bullies, that was enough for me. I'm not surprised they didn't go with the squid - I'd read that the ending was different, I thought it would be based on it being feel-good rather than a method for killing millions of people.
I don't know why Dr Manhattan insisted on walking with his BLUE COCK out all of the time ... as my brother said, he's a god so why should he care about nakedness?
Overall, a fantastic adult superhero movie. Hopefully the success of it and TDK will result in more carefully chosen movies like it, rather than the regurgitated rubbish we had previously.

Re: Watchmen
More likely it will result in more regurgitated garbage. The rubbish will change however. Hollywood has seen we like this stuff, and will assume it is solely because of the darker story, so I'm betting that is what we will get, darker movies. Not necessarily good movies, tho.

The character portrayals were great.. Except Veidt, I just wish it wasn't so altered. (Video above)
