Atlantica game (a decent free game)

Post by Ricky_Honejasi »

Atlantica is a kind of Strategic RPG MMO which got fairly basic gameplay yet manage to deliver very well due to multiple "right" features, very good graphics and good community support (including to newbies).

EDIT : You fight with a party of 3-9 characters depending on where you are in the game.

In short, a damn good game for a free one. It's not your Lineage 2 clone #137.

So far, Mucky and I are on the Argos server, we do need a few more players so we can establish a guild that won't die in 5-10 days due to an auto-kill because of a low guild level in a short period. It's also to play with more players we know.

In the game, my character is Honejasi while Mucky is Qunis (name Mucky was already taken). The "Loladins" guild on Atlantica is intended to be remade again.

Due to a mentor/apprentice system in the game, I am eligible to be your mentor if you join up.

Anyway, here's the game features (below the long list there are some video footage of my own) :

***General***
-> You can have a party that suits your gameplay, I took a more defensive party with swordsmen (high def) and healers while Mucky took a more "first strike" and boss killer party with spearmen and archers.
-> Quests that are kind of simplistic but at least they minimize greatly the grind you got to do in most MMO games or give a point to it.
-> Auto-Move feature ... that actually WORKS damn well. Hit quest to meet NPC then hit auto-move to auto-move to the NPC in question instead of trying to find it. Same for hunting grounds of X kills of monsters or boss location.
-> Mentor/Apprentice feature. A lv30+ player can be the mentor of a lv29 or less player helping the newbie into the game. Mentor and apprentice gets in-game benefits from it.
-> Sharing Craft Levels/Monster Info, a simple yet effective way is to trade information about monsters or to teach craft levels.

***Limited - Depends if you can use a related "license" item to use the feature for a limited time***
-> Teleport, the cream cheese of features. If you got the license, you can "lolport" from a town/dungeon/whatever else to town, dungeon or hunting location. The optional must-have feature.
-> Auto-Battle, the lazy way to do your battles or to ensure you won't die horribly while auto-moving and starting a battle by accident and dying horribly while alt-tabbed. Rather inexpensive to get the license.
-> HP Bars, can see enemy HP bars. A must have for PvP dueling.
-> Can see enemy parties. Can be useful.

***Guild Related***
-> It's possible to have a shared X kills of monsters to raise your guild's standing.
-> Possible to "guild craft", a shared method for all guild mates to pool their effort into making more powerful items quicker.
-> Possible to take over a town, getting taxes from them, having a few more special quests related to towns.
-> If a guild isn't so interested to get a town, the guild points can be converted to get special items instead.

***External (PvP, etc.)***
-> The Free League is a "tournament" for PvPing random players. You are rewarded for winning or losing although winning obviously give you more.
-> I believe you can also observe Free League matches if wanted.
-> There is a real PvP tournament when you get high enough in the Free League where you play more seriously against other players.
-> You can PvP challenge a nearby player while betting money on who's win.
-> You can bet money on a special type of NPC battles (maybe PvP tourneys as well). Bet little as lv20+ (minimum) or bet big fortunes when lv120 (max).
-> Quiz rooms, kind of odd but can be good to do something else for a change.
-> Some other things I probably forgot.

If you want a visual and more concrete idea of the game, here's some videos (all in x264 codec)  :

The download took two hours for me. I used filefront.

Also, the videos of me don't seem to have much actual combat, since it's in Ricky's perspective. Watch the first videos to get a good idea of the gameplay.

Pretty nice game; amazing considering that it's free. The quests are rather linear however, and the story isn't terribly immersive. Still, there were some nice ideas implemented.

Since Bill posted me over AIM that his downloaded install EXE is corrupt (happened to me too), I recommand that you download it from Filefront since it seems that one isn't corrupt for sure.

Here's some extra videos, do note that those that are tagged "No Sound" does have no sound since I usually screwed up the recording setting to record my mic instead of my computer's sounds (usually from PP/SS's recording settings then played Atlantica a few days later) which I changed back later on.

In addition, there is also a duel video between me and Mucky. Videos are in order of time line recorded.

It looks like a cool mix of anime'ish drawings and 3D.. But I can't attempt to bind myself into more than one MMO at a time, haha.

If anything, watch the duels between me and Ricky. The rest are probably Ricky talking to me and HKS, because Ricky is insane.
