Pre-Mafia Voting and such

Post by Ricky_Honejasi »

So to avoid that the next Mafia is screwed up, it might be a good thing to ask people to what kind of mafia they want.

Now presuming that I would host the next mafia (if AA7 ends up not doing it) :
-> The mastermind role won't be in the game (annoys too much the more serious players).
-> Detective still have role detection under my hosting.

Most of the choices below will be split into the 3 sub-types :
- a) Pre-decided roles - Villagers (roles decided by the host, 50% to most players are villagers)
- b) Pre-decided roles - No villagers (roles decided by the host, all players got a non-villager role)
- c) Custom Player Decided Roles (Implies no villagers, players decides their roles as long their roles are any balanced overall)
- z) Other (do explain what specific details, can be added as "d" to "y" options later on)

CHOICES - Can pick any set of choices including everything.

For comparisons proposes :
-> Last Mafia VIII game by me (which included Mastermind) will be considered 4b but won't include Mastermind and mafiosos won't have day kill.

1) TRADITIONAL MAFIA - Basically the Mafia's original rules when we first played it (1-2 mafioso, 1 detective, 1 doctor, rest as villagers in small games). Note : If people prefer this setting, AA7 obviously should host it since the basic Mafia more or less bore me.

2) MAFIA LESSER - Closest to traditional play but with some spice in it. Might have some custom roles but nothing will be gamebreaking.
Relative strength of roles : Standard Mafioso, Standard Detective, Standard Doctor, custom simple 1-line roles.
2a) Villagers
2b) No Villagers
2c) Custom Player Decided Roles
2z) Other

3) MAFIA MODERATE - Closest to custom without compromising role balance too much.
Relative strength of roles : Same as #2 but more likely to have that extra mafioso and custom roles might be more likely to have a wee little more power.
3a) Villagers
3b) No Villagers
3c) Custom Player Decided Roles
3z) Other

4) MAFIA SPICEY - More interesting but a bit more likely to unbalanced without being too ridiculous.
Relative strengths of roles : Similar to Mafia VIII's roles (latest game) but without mastermind and mafioso's day kill. Usually 2 lines roles or "doubled". Better with 4b) or 4c).
4a) Villagers
4b) No Villagers
4c) Custom Player Decided Roles
4z) Other

5) MAFIA OVERPOWERED - #4 but with more role overpower. No mastermind. Unbalance can start to seriously pour in, preferably more for sudden surprise gameplay rather than serious gameplay. Can include mafioso day kill. Preferable with 5b) or 5c).
Relative strength of roles : 3 lines of potential or 1 line of overpower.
Examples : IMMORTAL - "Cannot die but loses if all remaining innocents are immortals".
SUPERMAN - "Can protect one person, can investigate one person at night and have mayor ability (+2 vote if revealed)."
MIND BREAKER - "Can break up to 3 night actions globally per night. Must target correctly which person can do which night action for each action break in question to be successful. Ex : Must guess AA7 can protect to cancel AA7's protect."

5a) Villagers
5b) No Villagers
5c) Custom Player Decided Roles
5z) Other

9) Other totally different variant ... please say specifics.

Probably 2a.  I guess I like things simple... but with a few extra surprises here and there.

I vote for 9.  This is Campaign Creations for crying out loud.  Someone should be able to make a decent WC3 map that captures the essence of this game.  Just a suggestion, I don't like playing personally.  =)

It's been done. And it's not very much fun.

Yeah, the big downside of making it into a map is it becomes pretty much quick unthoughtful votes rather than longer and thoughtful votes. Which at this point, it's better off to do it a Chatroom Mafia game that can get some more people.

About the only good reasons to make such map are :
1) Having b.net players as extra players
2) cinematic deaths

Which few of us really care anyway.
