Fallout 3 - Yay or Nay?

Post by Marco »

I'm thinking about getting this game.  I never played the other ones but I hear this one is pretty good.  It is made by the same company that made Oblivion, so that causes me to be on the fence (since I hated Oblivion - too short too random).  I've read a few reviews, but usually American RPGs have grandiose stories with crappy characters (or worse, MUTE characters).  I'm wondering if the same holds true for this game.  Some American RPGs I do appreciate were Mass Effect, KOTOR, and Deus Ex (hybrid FPS/RPG).

Pre-ordered this game a few weeks ago (Before my 360 died)
Hoping its good because it was 60 bucks
Oblivion was made by the same people as Morrowind which was a great game, hoping its designed more like Morrowind.

It's basically Oblivion with guns, third person running animation are fucking terrible and the textures are all different shades of brown. Now this wouldn't be a problem if the entire game wasn't saturated in terrible bloom like Oblivion was. It also has all of the same voice actors and engine bugs that Oblivion had for the most part. As a sequel to the original Fallouts it is fucking terrible and as a stand alone game it is mediocre at best.

I've only played a few hours of it so far, but I like it.  Some of the controls are a bit clunky, but since you can use the VATS thing for combat, it's alright.  I think that so far, it has held the spirit of the originals fairly well.  I'll see what happens when I actually get into the game :P

wibod's just a qqmaster.

Now that I finally have some time, I'm going to go play some more of it!

I never cared for the original fallouts but all I've seen of the new one so far is very bland Doom 3-esque plasticy looking graphics. From what I gather of comments, it's neither yay nor nay. Most people seemed to expect the worst but weren't too disappointed or really overly impressed.

Yeah, which speaks pretty badly for an RPG.  Nothing worse than a bland RPG.  I'd rather play a bad RPG - at least then I can quit within the first hour, instead of playing 5 hours into it just to find out that it really does suck.

Yeah, so after playing it for a while tonight, I've been having lots of fun with it :D

It really does feel like Fallout 1 and 2, with basically being able to just go wherever the hell you want and do whatever.  Pretty much everything in the game is a massive series of sidequests.

I wouldn't call this game bland, though.  Yeah, the graphics are kinda plasticy.  And that might be an issue if the graphics were ever considered to be a selling point of the game.  And yeah, they're brown, too.  However, consider the original Fallouts.  They were brown before brown was cool.  It's a post-apocalyptic wasteland... of course it's brown... angiounqliu34hbliuqb

I'm giving Fallout 3 a definite yay.  It's been good so far.  I don't know that it will be ZOMG THE GREATEST GAME EVER!  But it's fun.  And I'm already looking forward to playing it again with a different style character.

I plan on purchasing it off steam (50$!!, not 60$!) when I actually have time to fucking play some goddamn videogames.
Now with 50% more lol, 50% more win, and 100% phlail.

My complaint with it being brown is the massive amounts of HDR and bloom that cause said brown to turn into mirrors.

My cousin said it was incredibly fun, but he wish he went with other means such as renting or.. Downloa-*ERROR* because it's only singleplayer. As a singleplayer game it's amazing, but it's one of those "when it's done, it's done." You wont play it again, but you'll finish it and love it.

I'm going to stop clicking random links without anything else in the post. Just annoying ;)

I will say that being a cowboy with a lever action rifle and revolver is badass though.
