Medic using optical flare.
I saw it in a map a looong time ago and just decided I'd like to use it... but how?
What would happen is at the start of the map, a medic would optical flare everyone (1-6 people depending on amount playing) then die. But the medic would not die before she had optical flared the last person.

You can't manually trigger that, as far as I know, but if the medic was seen no where else in game, perhaps her energy was set to stay at 100% and the only spell enabled was Optical Flare, causing the first reaction to be to flare all enemies. Just a thought.

Been messing around. I don't need a trigger to make em blind if I just set the medic to invincible and place him next to a mob. Only problem is he only wants to blind once, or not at all... any ideas?

Look at the other map carefully, perhaps they all spawn one second apart? Causing a new unit to make the medic flare again? Just a thought again.
EDIT: Or perhaps the medic is replaced by a new medic after one or two seconds, sparking the new medic flare a different unit each time?

I'd love to look at the other map but I don't know what it's named
I'm trying different stuff like making the medics "attack" to the location. I'm not really sure what the "Run AI Script: AI Harrass XXX" does
but it seems to have no effect.

I believe that script only works while the AI has a base, it'll target that area as a priority attack location.

Attack/Move -> Didn't work.
Edit: Idea- I know an "Impossible xxx" map that the medic runs up and flares people. I'll try to look at that. I'm almost POSITIVE it's an AI script though.

Re: Medic using optical flare.
I tried placing another medic w/ a trigger and it didnt work. he just sat there.
Edit: and it would be more trouble than its worth to place the units with a trigger rather than place then before the map starts
Edit: OK! I found, a sort of fix. If the medic feels stressed, i.e. is attacked, then she will blind her enemy! So I set the medic to have 255 armor for just that player and removed them after 1 second, so the enemy is blinded but no attn from the player is drawn.
Edit: I'd rather not use the attack fix. I just put in the trigger to spawn the units instead of place them. The medic didnt even flare once, I tried coupling them (Spawning medic). Nope. I think another trigger in my map is causing them not to flare.. I'm gonna try a clean map and see if it works.

By the way, I don't know if you noticed or not, but the Medic is female.
And your statement of "more trouble than it's worth to palce units with a trigger" ... Triggers are simpler and make the game more manageable.

Re: Medic using optical flare.
What I meant was, I've already got several triggers infront of it. And since it's at the very start of the map it is not yet hypered (the 1-4 second lag before things become hypered.) It might F- things up and cause unwanted and long waits. It's hard to synchronize things when that happens.Lavarinth wrote: By the way, I don't know if you noticed or not, but the Medic is female.

And yea, *points up* I only typo'd he in like, part of one post. It's she everywhere else! Who knows, in this day and age it could be a heterosexual :o Yea, j/k
Edit: I also just found out, the medic only likes to blind units with a ranged attack, which seems reasonable

Really? It flares Overlords all the time.
And do you really NEED hypertriggers? I've never once used them. Just more issues to deal with.

You could always have an isolated area with a medic and unit for each player under control of two hostile AIs. The units attack the medics, all get blinded, then you move them to the start location and change ownership to the players.

Re: Medic using optical flare.
It's an UMS map so hypers are sorta "needed." Makes things run smoother anyway.
And I didn't think about moving the blinded Units... nice idea.
Also- Another question. Is there a way to change ownership of Addons? The "Give unti to player X" doesn't seem to work. I have it giving from player 9>player 8... also because I thought it might have defaulted to player 12, I tried Player 12 > Player 8. No juice.

Hypertriggers are a nice addition to maps, I use it for every map in my campaign. They are a more recent invention and won't be found on campaigns years ago but its something worthy.Lavarinth wrote: Really? It flares Overlords all the time.
