Look, this thread is about Metallica's new album, come on. After hearing "The Day That Never Comes" I have to say that they have found their formula for success, at least with that song. It's very much in the style of "One," but it has a more current feel to it.
I am pleased.

I have come to the conclusion that this forum would not know good or even decent music if it split them wide.
Protip: Maiden, Slayer and Blind Guardian have outproduced and outperformed Metallica in every way possible. All the proof you need is how they mangled a Maiden song they were supposed to be doing a cover of and more or less vomited all over it while repeating fire as fast as possible.

I don't care how they do other bands. I care how they do Metallica. And they went back to what caused me to like them in the first place. However, I will agree that Maiden, minus some of the new stuff, is superior, but Slayer?

I listened to it yesterday, it has some okay stuff on it, and I'm sure Metallica fans will enjoy it. It's not as good as their 80's stuff. Metallica always kind of bores me with their dull riffs that they repeat forever and bad solos, but this new album continues on the St. Anger path with the bad drum sound. The production on the whole band sounds awful, but the drums stand out the most. I thought they would have really tried to fix that, but they still don't sound as good as they did on the 80's stuff, why?
I got bored of Metallica years ago, but I'm pretty sure this new album will be enjoyed by their fans even though its not their best.

I thought "The Day That Never Comes" was okay, if only for giving me an opportunity for me saying "That's the day wins at something."
It does sound kind of like St. Anger... I don't think it sounds like One at all. His singing voice is kind of different... it doesn't really feel like he's singing... kind of just talking.
