I am being forced from my home again due to some retarded work of nature.  Hurricane Gustav, and possibly Hanna, are both said to make landfall about 150-300 miles east of where I live.  Therefore, I am going with my family and evacuating to West Texas.  I am leaving early tomorrow morning.  We are just worried that our roof will not survive a second hurricane... But whatever happens will happen, and we have good insurance, so we should be set. 

Just pray, watch the news, feel sorry, not care at all, or whatever.  I will try to come on here and give some updates.  All I hope is that it will weaken before it makes landfall, but as of now, it's said to land as a Cat 4 Hurricane.  Hopefully Hanna doesn't come through and finish us off.

Thanks, bro.  Yeah, finally finished packing.  We have to find a way to fit 2 medium sized dogs, a bird, a chinchilla, 3 ice chests, 4 suit cases, and whatever extra stuff we need into 2 SUV's, lol.  Not taking my truck much to my avail... but, we just can't afford the gas to pay for 3 vehicles to drive 500 miles...

What he said. Gustav is now a Cat 2-3 hurricane, but it can be strengthened and become even worse than Hurricane Katrina.

But whatever happens will happen, and we have good insurance, so we should be set.

I don't want to hit any bubbles but as far I know, insurance in general doesn't cover "acts of god" (which includes tornadoes).

If somehow it does, the insurance is likely to cost ridiculously high or it almost give so little back when insurance's pay time arrives in such cases.

Fortunately for us, we are in a "flood zone."  So we have coverage for ANYTHING that comes from the ground.  We also have coverage for anything that is an "Act of God," i.e. rain. Therefore, if anything was to happen, we would be covered in full by our insurance.  And if they don't, we can sue, lol. 

BUT, all that aside, the storm weakened and turned north.  This means that my house is probably just getting some rain.  So that's good.  The actual rain from the storm only made it to my town, Sulphur, LA, about an hour ago.  Basically, we are just waiting on the lockout to be lifted so we can get back.  Although, it probably will not be until tomorrow afternoon.

Oh, well, Ike is headed to the Gulf by the end of the week!

But yea, I got back home around 11pm last night.  My dad and I went sightseeing.  Nothing's wrong here, or anywhere in my around, but the Central Louisiana, Baton Rouge area took a huge hit.  Much of my family lives there.  Most of them had minor damage, some tree limbs and lack of power, which is good. 

Hopefully I won't be back in this position next week.

Just an update. 

Ike is about 3 hours away from landfall at Galveston, TX.  I live about 150 miles from there.  However, my family, and those of many others in my area have decided to ride this one out!

So wish us luck  While I don't expect anything major to happen, I may be out of power for a few days.

Quick update.  It's 1:51AM my time, and I have been chosen to stay up and keep up with the updates/severe weather changes.  The storm's eye has recently made landfall in Galveston, TX.  I am in Sulphur, LA, which is very close to Lake Charles and the Texas/Louisiana border.  In the last 2 or 3 hours, the storm has greatly intensified inland.  I still have power, but there have been gusts up to 60-80 mph in our area.  There was a minor Microburst close to my house that actually caused it to shutter.  Very frightening, actually, lol.  But so far, no damage, and our antennae and Satellite equipment has held up, so at least I am still able to keep up with what's going on. 

EDIT: As of 1:57 am central, my parish has been put under a tornado warning for the next few hours.

Well, it's Monday, and the cable lines are finally back up.  Lost internet that morning around 4 AM.  My block was one of the only ones in my area that didn't lose power. However, some were finally up yesterday, and many more will be up today.

I had water come up to my yard, but, other than the ditch, that was it.  I have a gulley about 500ft from my house.  Luckily, I live on one of the highest places in our area.  Mustang St., which is the next street to the south of me was completely underwater for about 1 sq mile.  A couple houses got ruined.  On the other side of the gulley, it was basically a lake. 

And we got it easy.  My aunt's house in Bridge City, TX, has, yes, still has, about 3 feet of water in it. It HAD about 6 ft at one point, but it's "going down now."  Lake Charles, which is in Lake Charles, LA, which is about 15 miles to the east of where I live went up about 10 feet, flooding over the boardwalk and the raised concrete barrier.  Westlake, LA, which is on the west side of that lake is almost 60% under water.  I have a lot of friends there, and I go to church there.

So, while I came out great, many people all around me are pretty much screwed.
