Re: The Nightmare King
I've played this level and have to admit that it can be downright impossible to beat in its most difficult form, it also crashes alot. This level is heavily dependent on the decisions you have made in previous maps.
Additional allies (besides the Nerubians) that might or might not be able to help you:
Murlocs: When playing Scaldar in book 3 "Siege of Redmont", accept the murlocs, and they will fight for you in this level.
Jin Army: In book 3 "Jammin in the woods", be sure to intentionally fail the 'bring me the heads' quest. This will open up an optional 'Caravan' quest in book 3's "Countdown", which Yue Fang can complete. If you complete this quest, the Jin soldiers will be so impressed by Yue Fang's compassion they will fight for you in this level.
Additional enemies (besides the Knights of Tran) you might or might not have to face:
The Tribes: Wipe out their base in Book 5 "Cry for Wind" to prevent them from showing up in this level.
Darkwater Tribe: If they appear in "Cry for Wind" as your enemies, you must destroy their base to prevent them from showing up in this level. If they are your allies in "Cry for Wind", you don't have to worry about them.
The easiest version of "Nightmare King" is where you have Murlocs and Jin on your side, and the Darkwater lizards and Tribes are absent from the enemies' side. Hope this helps.

Re: The Nightmare King
Most of the time when I lose that level it's because I forgot to destroy the siege weapons; if enough of them amass there's no way the gate's staying up.

Hey. Now that we're on topic, who (or what?) is the Nightmare King? Doesn't sound like anyone I'd like to meet.

Re: The Nightmare King
The Nightmare king is Yue Fang. She gets buffed up with massive cleaveing attack and a super shockwave and she attacks like 6 attacks pet second.

Re: The Nightmare King
In the context of the map, it's Yue Fang.
The other 'Nightmare King' in the campaign is Zhang Liao, a (historical, if embellished) warrior famous for having led 100 men on a daring raid into an enemy camp numbering in the thousands, sowing confusion and chaos before retreating, without having lost a single man.
In this case Yue Fang stands against an army of thousands alone and refuses to let anyone enter the gates of the city. The city never falls and remains in the hands of the Jin Empire by the end of the battle; the survivors of the disastrous Battle of the Red Cliffs retreat there and regroup. Under the Jin Empire Redmont becomes and impregnable fortress.

So... Yue Fang refused to give up Redmont with her powers as a "dreamer"?RazorclawX wrote: In the context of the map, it's Yue Fang.

Re: The Nightmare King
It's not to hard to find out information on the Three Kingdoms period in China. I mean there have been countless movies, tv shows, and video games based of them. Most notably Dynasty Warriors series from Koei . I mean if you play Book 3 it has quite a bit of Dynasty Warriors music in it. It's a pretty interesting time period, I would suggest you pick up a copy of the translation of the book Romance of the Three Kingdoms. If you think Zhang Liao is cool just look up the time period for there are far more interesting people in there.
Fun fact: Kanna's idol is Kongming a.k.a Zhuge Liang who belonged to that time period.
Also Yue Fang wanted to test if Guo Jia, another person of that time could really win Battle of Chi Bi(Red Cliffs) for when historically Tsao Tsao lost the battle he lamented if only he had Guo Jia.
