Problems running LOTC 1

Post by Opie »

I've been trying to play LOTC for awhile now but everytime I try and run the EXE I get a message saying that Starcraft has stopped working and the program was stopped by the Data Execution Prevention. I've tried turning it off but it keeps doing the same thing over and over. Any tips or tricks of the trade for me?

Did you downgrade your version of StarCraft to the suggested version?

Forgive my ignorance but I'm not exactly sure what version that is. Would you happen to have a link to the patch?

I simply haven't made it obvious enough what's required to run the games on the pages, that's all.

What version are you running right now, I'm assuming you're running the latest version of StarCraft?

There's two things you can do to make this quick and easy, you can uninstall StarCraft and reinstall from scratch (including Brood War), and apply the following patch: http://www.creepcolony.com/BW_107.zip (Brood War version 1.07).

Or, you can rename the Starcraft folder to anything else such as "Starcraft Updated" and then insert the StarCraft CD and it'll ask to install, install it then Brood War as well, and apply the same patch. Now if you want to play LotC you can play with this install. If you want to play updated StarCraft (now Starcraft Updated folder), rename the new Starcraft folder to anything (such as Starcraft 107) and rename Starcraft Updated to Starcraft and you are now using the updated version.

There are alternatives to doing this, but this is the best for managing projects that work on different versions of the game.

From what I hear, StarCraft itself is a bitch to get running on Vista.
