Re: Myserious Artwork on Blizzard Website...
The only major departure for D3 will probably be the amount of gore/mutilated body parts littered around the areas, seeing as how they're going for a Teen rating.

Besides, from a gameplay perspective, the cleaner the graphics, the cleaner it plays. It's important to be able to distinguish enemies and items from the ground they're standing on. But hey, if you really want to enjoy the game you see in the "how it should look" portion of that image, just crank down your brightness and contrast settings, and enjoy!
I don't want Diablo 3 to be dark like doom 3
I want it to be a gruesome, "dark" satanic setting in that it is evil and full of demons
If you play diablo 2, let's take some examples of what exactly I mean and best able to compare to Diablo 3.
Okay, Kurast. It's a forest, it's got plenty of colors. But even this bright forest is twisted by the powers of evil. It doesn't look like a cartoon. It looks real. It has been twisted by the powers of Hell. The rivers are full of bodies, there's mist everywhere, huge ruins, ect. As soon as you enter Travincal, it's a slaughterhouse. The entire area is literally covered in blood and we all know that the Durance of Hate is basically a river of blood and bodies everywhere. Corpses stacked 10 feet high. You fucking know the Lord of Hatred is behind this.
Compare Kurast to the outdoor area seen in D3. In d3, it's very very bright, very happy. Save the ruins and stupid-looking skeletons meandering around, it looks very plain and uninteresting. Quite frankly, it looks like WoW with a little more bloom thrown on. It is boring and it doesn't feel at all evil let alone true to the Diablo feel.
But the indoors area is what bothers me the most. It's so fucking bright and colorful yet it's an underground cavern filled with fucking demon worshippers, cultists, and hordes of Undead. Undead aren't exactly tidy maids when it comes to house cleaning and they sure as hell don't just stand there waiting years for some doofus with an axe to come by and smack them a few times for gold pieces to magically manifest on the floor. The whole place reminds me a lot of Kharazhan in its empty, boring, cartoony demeanor. The only part of the dungeon that was remotely interesting was the entrance with the water. Compare this to, say, the Countess' tower, or that funny dude's place (the one guarded by Pindleskin) in d2.
Now, the characters. The boss were cool, no complaints there. They look a lot better than the skeletons. The skeletons are what have got me most confused about the monsters. Their animations are very poor.
Okay, sure, it's pre-alpha. But it's clearly not ready to be shown to the public and I really hope the art style gets changed back to D2's. If you think they are similar, you have never played d2. They are very, very different.
Additionally according to their FAQ they claim to be sticking to the M rating. Well, they should start showing it.

While I disagree with you about the graphics, I should also remind you that while Blizzard does like to keep their new games a secret while they're developed, they also like announcing them and getting the hype machine rolling very early.Doctor Doack wrote: Well, I'd hope so. SC2's Desert and Ashworld tilesets really put D3 to shame. I honestly think they announced the game far, far too early. There isn't even any bump mapping.

I thought it was funny at some stage in the download process Blizzard got me to confirm my age. So that wasn't checking I was over 18; just over 13 or something??Aekenon wrote: The only major departure for D3 will probably be the amount of gore/mutilated body parts littered around the areas, seeing as how they're going for a Teen rating.
Or something even stupider, specific to the country they detected I'm from??

That's a little different. So, the style's fine with you after all... you just wish there were more terrifying and horrific sights to be seen. Well, that makes more sense.Doctor Doack wrote: ok I think there is a bit of confusing here

If they are going for the M rating after all, then I wouldn't be too worried about that. Even though gruesome sights are almost synonymous with the Diablo series, they probably wouldn't want to gore up the areas in their preview movie. Might rather wait and shock you with them in-game... after all, that's what it's all about. I could just be pulling that out of my ass, but meh.
Even if those areas are final, I think it goes without saying that there will be rooms filled to the brim with blood and guts somewhere. This is Diablo. Don't worry, Doack, they'll find a way to please you yet.

Re: Myserious Artwork on Blizzard Website...
Mesk, to me it sounds like you are bitching about:
A) too bright, I agree with this, however they always give the option to turn down brightness.
B) you can see what the fuck is going on, Here I think you are being retarded, in D2 I spent half my time in the dungeons flailing around with my mouse to see where the fuck anything was. Sure you could argue this added a "horror" element to the game, but thats fucktarded. I was never terrified of what D2 had to offer, sure I was like "oh shit that thing is going to shoot me" but that happens in pretty much any game where something giant is running around. tl;dr I like being able to see kthx
C) lack of doodads, yes there is a lack of doodads and other bloody gorey effects, but its a pre-alpha, give them a chance to draw shit instead of being all like "O NOEZ NO BODIES YET THAT MEANS THERE WONT BE ANY BAWWWWWWW" thats like saying that because they only showed 2 heros that are psudo-ready that there wont be any more and that the game will ship with them unfinished.
D) "its cartoony", If by cartoony you mean in 3d and with more colours than shades of grey and occasionally fire then yes it is cartoony.
in short you are being a little bitch, sit down shut up and let them work on their shit

You're the only person I've ever heard having that problem. Even the most chaotic areas in D2, being the Act 2 tombs, are very easy to make sense out of even in Hell difficulty with literally hundreds of dudes everywhere. It's not the game's fault you are a complete and total failure.in D2 I spent half my time in the dungeons flailing around with my mouse to see where the fuck anything was.

How can you be so bothered without having seen even 1% of the total game? Do you honestly think its going to be all bright and cheerful the entire way through? I'm sure you'll get your share of rotted dog heads detatched from their bodies and all that good stuff. Maybe their heads will be kept alive too through Diablos powers. His eerie powers.

Re: Myserious Artwork on Blizzard Website...
Well, actually going through the Chaos Sanctuary with something like 7 Frozen Orbs, Lightnings and Blizzards, not counting player auras and enemy curses, can be as frustrating to watch as a battle in WC3 with more than 10 units involved.Doctor Doack wrote:You're the only person I've ever heard having that problem. Meta, how do you have 7 frozen orbs and multiple player auras on at once? That would imply 7 sorc's with room for only one loladin... although the Loladin is probably a botter with Exile. So that's two auras. But auras were never terribly flashy.
Frozen Orb was an admittedly retarded spell, though.

Re: q
Yeah, 7 orbs was an exhageration, but something like 4 or 5 sorceresses and a few paladins (and don't forget the act2 mercenaries which come with Auras and are the ones most players get), plus the doom knights casting 2 or 3 curses per second on your whole party, make everything really flashy and hard to see what's going on. If you add a necro and his 40 minions, it gets even harder.Doctor Doack wrote:Well, I can only comment on what I've seen.Desler wrote: How can you be so bothered without having seen even 1% of the total game? It's just a momentary problem though, since multiple orbs and blizzards flying around mean lots of dead monsters.

I support darker graphics and a whole lot of gore and psychological terror as well (like the slaughterfest in Kurast or the impaled Barbarians in the Arreat battlegrounds), seeing as the trailer didn't have a satanic appearance at all.
