Re: Main screen character
I think so, you just have to rename their corresponding smk files.

Re: Main screen character
That requires BIN editing. It's a simple process of clicking the "disable" button for two of the characters, and then switching the filename that the middle one directs to.

Re: Main screen character
It doesn't require bin editing, I once replaced one of the dudes with my own dude without editing any bins. I'm pretty sure I did, anyway.

Re: Main screen character
You can replace them yes, but you can't disable them without editing the BIN file.

Re: Main screen character
Renaming them also means having to include them in your custom mpq. BIN editing is thus much smaller cause you make them point to a different file.

Re: Main screen character
yeah bin editing is the way to go
I recommend using BinEdit II to do it; you can get it here: http://www.staredit.net/topic/1188/ (I don't know if there's a more recent version?)
I believe the file you'll need to edit is rez\gluexpcmpgn.bin
Click View->Preview to get a nice preview window, then click through the various "Form objects" to find the ones you want to disable. It seems BinEdit II does allow you to delete unwanted objects, but if I remember correctly (been a while since I did this stuff and didn't do much of it) it might not work properly when used in game, so I think ticking the "Disabled" flag and unticking the "Visible" flag should do instead.
