Perhaps you have a part of reason, but this strategy is a little suicide, given the cost of the science vessel. You must think this: If the enemy main Hive/CC/ Nexus is defended by many Spore Colonies/Missile turrets/Photon Cannons, your science vessels will be destroyed by them and you expose yourself to stay with only a few resources. The enemy can exploit this to send you a devastating attack that will defeat you.

Omega, you are making like a dozen assumptions upon an actual battlefield to construct a situation where a certain tactic may or may not work. Obviously everything depends on a variety of parameters. And besides, radiation will do no good against protoss probes, don't assume someone would raid a protoss economy with that particular stragegy.  

All we are talking about here is a favorite unit. And I love to work with science vessels because they are really cool units. That's all. Units that are non-direct combat forces can give a lot of strategic depth to a game, if properly handeled.

There's no question that the "spellcaster" units are all key players in their respective armies.  Those who utilize them well are the ones who win the matches, from my experience.

Me?  I suck too much to manage them effectively, so I do what most lame players do and mass carriers.
