Yes, of course, the Defilers are good if they are used correctly, just like the other spellcasters. It's just funny to see that even a mere zergling can kill more enemy than a "kickass" Defiler who is supposed to be high in the hierarchy. It can only kill units by consuming them, but it only works on your own units.
Now that I think about it, they should be able to eat enemy units, with a cooldown. If they eat a zergling/marine/ultralisk then the consume spell would receive a 30/45/200 second cooldown and would restore 25/30/max energy (mechanical and flying units are considered uneatable). In that case it (or its replacement) would be an awesome unit in Sc2. Just an idea.
