Well a sequel came out called Mother 3 that is fucking sweet as hell.  Also Lucas from Super Smash Bros Brawl is from this new game.  So this dude is translating it and has a whole blog with hacking progress and shit that is updated all the time.  It's pretty close to being done.  You should check that shit out fo' real.

earthbound is like one of the greatest if not the greatest RPG's ever made. I've known about mother 3 for a long time... it was pretty inevitable someone was gonna translate it. (There's been communities doing that for a while)

Basically mother3.org said they were totally doing it, and then they didn't actually have anything done.  This guy basically built a blog that showed progress to prove that he was actually doing it.  If you start at the beginning of the blog until now, you can see exactly what progress has been made.  They're pretty much done with every major hack except one.  After that hack is done, Tomato, the dude running that site, is going to do a second script draft.  He's a professional translator.  Then the second draft has to go to Demi from neo-demiforce, who is going to read it, proof it, and change it to sound more natural.  Then that draft is going back to Tomato, who just has to check the edits made, and then it's completely done.  The script needs to be inserted and then that's it.  I'm predicting 2-3 months to completion.

As in the case of all RPGs I managed to get stuck. I hate RPGs with a passion.

Definitely a champion of an RPG!  A shame that Mother 2 wasn't generally well-received here by the masses here on this side of the world.  Because of all the haters out there (you know who you are!!), we've been denied its successor!

Well, with luck, if a Mother 4 ever appears, we'll get to enjoy it.  Some of Nintendo's previously Japan-only titles (like Fire Emblem) have been gaining huge popularity here, so maybe there's hope...

FF6 I could understand. But how could you get stuck in Earthbound?

Also, speaking of Japan-only RPG titles, everyone should check out Seiken Densetsu 3.

I dunno, I imagine it would be pretty easy to get stuck in Earthbound.  If you're not on top of things, the difficulty curve in EarthBound can get outta hand, and you find yourself entering new areas where you have no hope against the enemies.  Not that... that ever happened to me.  No sir.

Yeah, Seiken Densetsu 3 is a good one.  Being able to select your main character is pretty nifty, what with the way the story changes (at least a little) to focus on the choice you made.  Plus, it can be multiplayer, which is a feature I always appreciate in an RPG. (Off the top of my head, other RPG's with multiplayer are FF5 - 6, and the Tales series)
