Star Wars Clone Wars - Love/Hate

It's definitely going to be a love/hate relationship with this upcoming movie. Every time I see the trailer at the movies I cringe. I see characters who fail to develop, and instead, are just shouting generic dialogue that is expected of them. Nothing funny, and usually the 'funny' stuff is trying way too hard to be funny. I mean every single line in this trailer just screams 'generic Star Wars dialogue.'

On the other hand, watching actual clips of the action scenes are pretty cool. The scenes are very well done, Lucas' insistence of drowning every inch of a scene in a special effect of some kind leads real professionals to create spectacular action scenes like this:

Whats a guy to do? Gotta see it, not gonna gain anything from the story, just gonna watch a hour and a half computer special effects show basically.
One more seperate rant for this post, and this is about movies in general - the whole dramatic choir thing in movie music used to be really cool cause it was so underused. But now every movie has the dramatic choir music seems like. (an example is Star Wars Episode I where Obi and his master fight Darth Maul). It used to kind of give me that 'oh shit something huge is happening', now its just kinda 'yawn' cause its so overused.

I saw this trailer for the first time a few days ago in a movie, I never knew this was even in production, to be honest, and I wish it wasn't. I also cringe at the sight of this trailer. It just doesn't strike "Star Wars saga" to me. Watching the action sequence was entertaining, however when the terribly-textured alien being starts talking to a droid about how "this will not do, we must fall back and set up our deflector shields" in such monotone vocals.. I once again cringed and completely forgot about the pretty color action sequences. The dialogue is simply killing me in this, the animations are fine, the models are sub-par with pathetic texturing. Seems the only thing that looks great is the stock models of robots, clones, vehicles. Aside that, they made the aliens more cartoony which doesn't suit them and the human characters lack expression. They seem to have the same emotion stuck on their face at all times.
In the original trailer.. I was in awe the first.. 30 seconds. Until they showed C3PO next to.. Jabba? And then Anakin.. Then I lost all hope with those models. At first it had the great lighting, action sequences, etc, that is known in Star Wars.. Then.. Again, I feel like I'm watching action figures talk and go at it. Ugh.. I keep jumping scenes and trailers as more things just come at me in disappointment.. "Asoka!" ... Wow, that just sounded terrible. Put some effort into the millions you're being paid.
First few seconds of the second trailer.. Those laser bolts being shot out of the gun? Wow.. They just.. Don't fit and aren't aligned properly in After Effects or whatever they used. They wiggle as the camera pans and it's a constant.. Bam bam bam bam bam.. No human emotion into the triggering of the gunfire what-so-ever. No one fires a gun at the identical same speed in the middle of a firefight, that's what makes it unique to watch compared to animation.
They should of just made it with real people. I would of loved to see side-stories to the original six episodes, such as Mace Windu's awesomeness in books where he shoves a lightsaber halter through someone's head using the force.

They should have just done it in the style they did for the Clone Wars miniseries. That miniseries was awesome.

Haha, so true. I remember being impressed by some LotR and Matrix choir music, but those were kept for the real decisive moments of the movies. Nowadays it's just too common.

I always loved the Star Wars series but I doubt I'm going to go see this, I thought Lucas said he was done with SW anyway?

No quote no proof. Why would he ever be done with his largest franchise?

I didn't know if he was or not, that's just what I heard. I agree it would be stupid for him to throw it away, but I think he should of stuck with making more episodes after the Death Star.

I rather see side-stories as mentioned. Mace Windu.. Jango Fett.. etc. (Bounty Hunters are always undershown in the movies)

I used to be a fan, but after seeing the total ridiculous onslaught of merchandise, it comes off as something without a soul. Something thats there just to cash in. The spirit of the original 3 movies was definitely lost.

I really didn't like Return of the Jedi that much, especially after The Empire Strikes Back. ESB is my favorite of the movies even though it took me a really long time to appreciate it (I was a frickin' kid when I first saw it; of COURSE a lot of it didn't make much sense at the time).
I also used to pick up all the EU novels, starting with Heir to the Empire. My last Star Wars novel was Vision of the Future, which is kind of fitting because that was right before they started putting out that New Jedi Order stuff which I heard so much about (both good and bad). Can't really say I missed it much; the EU material has its fair share of stinkers and gems (best being the Zahn novels and the X-wing novels)

NJO has some real good stuff in it, but a lot of the terrible stuff that was put out overshadows a lot of it. Also the Dark Nest series was terrible, but it's to be expected since it's Troy Denning.

Warning: spoilers ahead!
NJO isn't that bad; the one who gets the prize of being the worst of the worst are the Dark Empire graphic novels, which are really terrible in my opinion, as they turned the entire original trilogy (especially RotJ) into something completely pointless by having Luke fall to the Dark Side, the Emperor's ressurrection, Bobba Fett still alive... argh! Dark Nest was also really bad, yeah, but not as terrible as Dark Empire.
I agree that Stackpole's X-Wing series and Zahn's stuff (mainly the Thrawn Trilogy) are the best Expanded Universe works. Those are also much better than the pointless, soul less prequel movies we've been given by George Lucas, as well as the majority of the EU.

Oooh, I remember the Dark Empire graphic novels! Haha, when that came out there was so little Star Wars EU material (in fact, wasn't it the very first attempt to expand the story?). So I think the reason they were so popular was that there wasn't really anything else continuing the Star Wars saga.

Yeah, it was one of the first EU stories, if not the very first one.
Granted, the art looked really good - although the colors were quite weird - but I didn't really like the plot at all. There were some good additions though, like the Eclipse-class Super Star Destroyer, Nar Shaddaa (still one of most common and popular cities in the EU) the World Devastators and the planet Byss.

Star wars used to be something great now Lucas Arts is butchering it. Whats next an animated series of Indiana Jones!
