Questions about a secret + help needed

Hello! I'm a big a fan of this series, i just restarted it after years. I wanted to complete the game fully this time by getting every achievements, items, secrets, paths etc... so i have a question regarding the secret in Book 1 Chapter 2 (Part 1) "Play as Kanna . Play as the Arcadian side." i sent a unit on the circle at the bottom of the furbolg camp where there is a journal page, but nothing seems to happens, do i have to bring a specific unit?
Also another question: whic characters should get the most skill books (apart from the wanderers ofc), are there other heroes that will appear in mostly every book/chapter and requires better stats?
