Camera Troubles.. Help?

So, I was looking for a free video recorder for the computer (it's not like a physical camera, it's a program that records video on your computer), and I found HyperCam and decided to try it out. My first test subject was just me moving my mouse around on my desktop a little. It worked fine, the recording looked good. Then my next test subject was Diablo 2. That didn't work so well..

When I recorded it, the game of course was glitchy, ecspecially because I was on B.net at the time. When I finished the recording and played it on Windows Media Player, the recording was playing in the bottom right hand corner of the screen (unlike the previous recording with the desktop in which it filled the entire screen on Windows Media), and the layers of the game (i.e. units, terrain, health bar, inventory, ect.) were all flashing in and out. Lets just put it this way, it looked really crappy.

So, I don't know what went wrong. Help? ???

Could be the transition between resolutions of your desktop and the game, or simply some games aren't very compatible with certain recorders. Chances are it's the prior though, so I would say try recording with your desktop also set to the resolution you play D2 on (usually 800x600) or better yet use a more game-targetted recorder like FRAPS.

Diablo 2 is not a 3d engine so it isn't really rendering in directx (or OpenGL in certain cases). Also, hypercam is a piece of garbage.

Only record when in the game and stop recording before exiting.

For diablo 2 I'd recommend using growler guncam. Fraps doesn't handle software rendering that well at all.

Desktop resolution should have no impact on your recording at all. I run on 1900x1200 and I can record starcraft, age of wonders 2 at any res, ect. just fine.

You also might want to look into a glide wrapper for d2.
