Technical problem, technically not related to modding

Booted up Starcraft for the first time in a few weeks. Played a custom game. Did a standard Save file at the start of the mission. Noticed something strange about the saving procedure, though I couldn't put my finger on what it was, so I tried saving a few more times until I realized that I wasn't being shown the box that actually says "Saving..." after I pressed "OK".

I tried this with a few more save files that already existed, since I just overwrite and constantly cycle through the same file names since I never need to keep them for more than a few minutes. They all had the same error, they wouldn't actually save. I tried loading them and they came up as what they were prior to today. I closed the mod I was using and tried using basic Starcraft. Same result. I tried deleting the save files from within the game. The game refused to delete them. It didn't show me an error message, it just... didn't do anything when I pressed delete.

Basically, the 7-8 save files that I had before today are now frozen in their current state, unable to be changed or deleted. I also can't create more, and I can't create a new Player name on Starcraft, either. Thoughts?

Do you have read/write permission to the drive/directory the game is on?

In theory, yes. And I don't see what would have changed in a few weeks. No one else uses this computer, and I don't think I messed with any admin settings... but I'll look. Thank you. Damn you respond quickly.

Edit: The folder is .../Starcraft/Characters, right?

Hmmm. Not sure which folder it is specifically. Is it the digital download version of starcraft?

Actually I really have no idea what could be wrong other than the drive/windows losing permission. I've never used saves before. hahaha

Full CD version of Starcraft.

As far as I know, the saves are linked to the User files, which I have found in the folder I described. The Saves aren't listed anywhere specifically, so I'm hoping they are where I think they are. In any case, I unlocked the Character folder as much as possible, allowing myself, other users, any programs, and any viruses, to access it and do whatever the hell they want with its files. No luck. Saves still unresponsive.

You're probably right about it being linked to a lack of permission somewhere, I just can't figure out where.

Did you try making a new user?

From within the game, I still can't. I can force a new file into the Characters folder, and I can use that User in the game. However, it has no Save files, and refuses to make any.

Maybe as a last resort. I have a feeling that would cause icky things to happen to my SCMDraft settings... like last time...

IT WORKS NOW. I suspect my laptop was doing something weird with the security settings while it was updating the Windows. Updates complete, no more security issues.

So it was, in a way, some weird permissions problem. Just... weirder than expected.
