Completed Journal Upgrades ?

Just what does the completed journal upgrade do exactly I played it over again and all it did was give the charaters
their soul powers earlier on .

I don't remember everything it does, but beside giving everyone a Soul Power in Book 1 and 2, it should unlock more class choices. Also, in the Summoner Duels in Book 3 you can randomly end up with Deathclaw as a summon.
But then, I may be confusing that with something that requires the Journal pages and defeating the optional bosses in Book 6.
