In a major 1st Amendment rights victory for video games, a California law banning the sale of "violent video games" to minors was struck down 7-2 by the Supreme Court on common sense grounds that it was wrong to target one medium while many others featuring violence were legally protected.

I liked the idea of the law while it lasted. I'll admit that. But I agree with the Supreme Court too! If you stop a sword from cutting you up and think you're safe, you'll get a bullet in the back of the head. Besides, it's still down to the parent's decision. On both ends.

I'm all for banning under-18s from doing stuff, but screw this:
while adults would still have been able to buy them they wouldn’t have been stocked in major retailers, thus harming their sales enormously and in turn dissuading game companies from making adult games.
also the law was sparked by the hot coffee controversy, what the hell? A game of larceny, murder, drugs and prostitution only makes big news when a third-party downloadable mod also enables dryhumping? Y'all niggaz crazy.

Not too mention the fact it was removed from the ability of being accessed by anyone without "hacking" the game.

What about Heavy Rain or God of War?

Not to mention the federal Internet censorship bill that was only NARROWLY defeated last week in Congress (which would have let both the government and ISPs selectively block websites based on a number of criteria). There's a similar effort in the UK that's actually gathering much more support so you never know when that kind of shit can happen.

What Mesk was referring to about Hot Coffee was everyone turning fucktarded over it, not that it was there.

Both really good points. The Guy Game was incredibly badly timed! When did the review come up for that game? The next month?
And I have to agree with Hunter_Killers. The reaction was really overblown!
