Homeworld Update

I'll be out of town for the week, and I don't like it, because I won't be able to work on my campaign.

I have not been idle this past week, I have designed voices for at least three main characters, turned around some story aspects and done some terrain work.

I've attached three voice samples:

1. Therassan: "Executor, our attack was in vain."
Therassan's voice was by far the hardest to design. I've modeled him after Artanis (in fact, he's using Artanis' portrait at this stage...), but I've tried to give him a fiercer character.

2. Talliras: "Praetor, Imridan may be right."
His voice was born when I tried to imitate the great Bill Roper's Fenix voice and the Dragoon voice from the game. He may not always be intelligible, but that's what you have the subtitles for! =) Seriously, it's hard talking like this AND trying to articulate well. Overall, in the missions I've completed, I think I've done well!

3. Imridan: "I understand your doubts."
His voice began as an experiment of sorts. I'm still not entirely happy with him, but there comes a time when you must make do with what you have and get on with the rest of the campaign.

Overall the most difficult part is to make the voices (not the effects) sound different. I know you can still tell all voices were done by the same person, but I've done my best.

So, work will continue on Friday, when I get back. Enjoy the sound samples, and I'd also like to take this opportunity to say that I'm glad Starcraft isn't dead yet. From what I've seen here, we can still end Starcraft with some great campaigns!

The first is pretty average... I would lose the underwater effect for something a little more fluid, though.

Second is very hard to understand. The effects are good but without subtitles I haven't a clue what he's saying.

The third is easily the best of the lot.

Also, use mp3 when distributing voice samples. wav is just gigantic. 200kb for 1 second of voice? yuck.

Cool Edit Pro? Are you serious, Legion..?

It did the job in the old days. I've tried almost everything there is, but CEP is my favorite -- I know it inside n out, so I keep coming back.

Does it really matter, tho?

Abode Audition 1.5 is almost a replica of Cool Edit with some good enhancement, considering they bought Cool Edit Pro.. I mean, just look at this screen of it..

Looks pretty much the same to me. I couldn't get a full version for Audition, though, so I'm sticking with CEP.

Besides, I don't think Audition can do a whole lot more than CEP. =)

CEP is teh stuff!!11!

Well, if you care to try it out, let me know. Hahaha. Audition is 30 megs. Haha, I still remember when Cool Edit was the TOP program to sound edit with.

Hey guys. I've been doing some more work. So far, I've got five maps finished (that is 100% done terrain-wise, about 70% done with triggering and 80% done with script).

You can expect a full coverage update soon enough, with a new hero and the rest of what I've been up to.

Going strong,

Legion

Okay, some delays and some *different* progress.

In a short time, I'll be finishing my precursor campaign which will be a 5-mission adventure that foretells the events in the actual campaign.

This precursor, entitled Darkness Overpowering, will be about a group of mysterious Dark Templar on Shakuras led by a Dark Archon known as Khaszerul.

So, expect a precursor campaign soon and HW episode I shortly after that. =)

I'll post some screenshots when I get home in a few days...

Cheers!
